... And somehow my lack of interest in this film just grew bigger. Again this film is really pushing the horrible rape angle while also indulging in flat stereotype characters who seem to be really leaning into my theory that they're going to be unlikable assholes.

But what really bugs me is the lack of creativity in both the tagline and the title. Once again this film does the title thing when the letters of the title slowly spell out the title which I've honestly gotten sick of at this point as it was used in the last two trailers for the other Alien movies. But even worse then that is the tagline as the trailer also reuses the iconic "In Space No One Can Hear You Scream" and show someone silently screaming.

Like this trailer has no idea of it's own and pisses me off.

I love the original Alien Trailer which is of course iconic but what makes that trailer work and what this one fails at is the over use of the Alien. I get it there's no way around not showing the Xenomorph but they show them at every opportunity along with the facehuggers (leading to the aforementioned rape imaginary) and my disinterest in this film just keeps growing.

I know a trailer isn't the be all end all of a film, show or game but a trailer is suppose to sell people on a film and this REALLY isn't doing a great job at convincing me that this is a film I should go see.

As mentioned before I actually like the Alien vs. Predator movie and the trailers were a big part in getting me hyped for that film. Sure they're not the greatest trailers ever made but they got the point across, this is a movie about two iconic horror movie monsters going head to head in a death match. And the tagline is honestly underrated "Whoever Wins, We Lose."

And while the film did show off the Aliens and Predators that was to the film's benefit because we had not seen either monster in years and it made the smart move of showing little to none of the fights outside horde of aliens attacking the Predators at the top of a Pyramid. But outside of that it only showed the two preparing to fight or the characters reacting to said fights.

This was a brilliant move because it would mean people would need to go watch the film if they wanted to see the fights. And it worked because contrary to popular belief AVP was not a bomb and made more then it's budget back.

But this, it's already showing the more shocking moments which is what killed my interest in the film to begin with and now is showing as much of the film as it can. Combine that with the reuse of both forming title and the reuse of the first film's original tagline just continues to make me want to not watch this film.

True but there to keep in mind is this film is being direct and written by Fede Álvarez who has included rape in most of his films and VERY badly. I talked about this extensively in my last post on the film but with the exception of Texas Chainsaw Massacre every film he has made includes rape and the worst thing he's done was in Don't Breath 2 where he made the blind man, who is a rapist, the hero of the film.

This honestly makes him one of the few directors I actively dislike because of that and while he did not direct that film he wrote and produced it meaning it was either his idea or he approved of it.

The other thing to keep in mind is that while Alien life cycle has always been a metaphor for rape there were certain things that no one making this series would do which was to never show the moment in graphic detail. Álvarez, however, is doing so with several scenes in the trailers making it clear what this is.

Álvarez's use of rape is and imaginary there in is used for shock value and the fact the, again, made a rapist the hero of one of his films gives the impression that he doesn't care about what he's saying or showing he's just doing it to get people to talk about his films. Many modern horror films try to make things as graphic as possible because they think that's what the viewer wants to see but most of them still try to not cross certain lines. Álvarez has crossed that line many times and does so without thought or care.

So while it has always been there, the most important thing to keep in mind is the intention of the one presenting it and I have seen nothing from Álvarez that suggest his intentions are something to think about.
