Why you should not take the internet seriously

Post by clearspira »

I have a new hero. His name is Nikocado Avocado. I wouldn't have said that yesterday, and I may not be saying that tomorrow if this all turns out to be some giant troll (and it could still be). But today at time of writing he has pulled a stunt worthy of the Julliard trained actor that he is.

Asmongold's reaction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU2gAf7m8JY
Nikocado has a message for Batman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0gXz0zNcYc
Nikocado Two Steps Ahead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkGjoRPpWqA

These videos are well worth the watch. This man had faked at least several years of videos to expose the fickle nature of the internet. The way that everyone piles on others without evidence. The way everyone believes what they see and hear without critical thought. The way that people are desperate to fit in by bullying others. The blind consumerism. The hunger for attention. The hypocrites who are kissing his ass today who were calling him sick and diseased and disgusting yesterday.

This is absolute genius. There is no other word for it.

He has shown up the internet and society for what it is like few others ever have.

I took a break from this forum, social media, and even politics for the last few months because I started to see myself in that description above. Look at that post count of mine on the right. I signed up to talk about Star Trek and Dr Who, and I ended up spending most of my time on the news section, arguing about things that do not matter, saying things that I probably shouldn't. Because it made me feel better. Putting out my opinion was an addiction. Seeing my own words, seeing the responses, getting the likes and dislikes. It is like cocaine. And even if Nik is lying, that realisation about myself will not change.

Going forth I will limit myself to Star Trek and sci-fi once again - and even then, ignoring the shows that I do not like and haven't watched and yet felt like dumping on. And perhaps sharing my culinary adventures. I have discovered a great love for cooking in recent months. Cooking from scratch with your own hands is immensely satisfying but I can only really do it at weekends. And I now write fantasy. I probably won't ever release any of it but it's fun to do. Getting lost inside your own head instead of the heads of others.

Take only the things seriously that need to be taken seriously. Treat the rest as the meaningless joke that it is. It only takes one bad day if you let it. I firmly believe this. Only one bad day. And it would be a great shame if it was over something that everyone in the world forgets by next week.

Nice to see ya back, hope things been well. Good on the cooking.

Asmangold sucks ass though.
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

Thank you. A feel a lot happier now then I did a few months ago. It turns out that ''if you don't like it then just don't watch it'' is an amazing life lesson. That and detoxing yourself from influencers who talk about M-She-U's and things of that nature.

You shouldn't need to be told that I know, but lol, there you go. Breaking out of that bubble is an interesting experience. The sort of experience that makes you scratch your head with a sigh at just how much of a turkey you were to get swept up with them in the first place.

I've been feeling that recently. It's incredibly freeing to see something that's obviously going to be a carcrash and realise that you no longer care, and that they can't hurt you anymore. Alien Romulus came out, and it passed me by without barely a whimper. I hear they resserrected Ian Holm which sounds gross, but other than that I haven't at all engaged which is such a weight off my shoulder to know I've managed to avoid all the discourse. Ditto Rings of Power s2. I haven't heard anything about that since the trailers.
