I have a lot of respect for Snowden. It takes a lot of guts to walk away from a comfortable life to try and shine some light in dark places. I suspect history will largely vindicate him.

But he did still commit a crime.

If Putin asked Snowden, a man who risked lots to reveal sketchy things the government did when liberty was threatened, to hack the American election, Putin's much stupider than I would have thought.

Yeah, he may have committed a crime but it was in the effort to reveal the bigger and deeper crime of the NSA against the American people.

"The russians skewed the election!'' if they did, they did it very easily and at minimal cost or resources. It's like I gathered a troll group to sway the election and somehow found this fertile ground of people willing to go along with what I had to say on public forums, tweets, facebook, ect...

When great weights are on the scales, it only takes one thumb's pressure to sway the balance.
Soviet Surplus discount election meddling is still election meddling.

Strikes me as more of a modern day red scare than anything else.

So since during the "red scare" there were actual Soviet spies in the USA your saying that there is a certain amount of Russian meddling? :)

Yeah. Probably more along the lines of fake news and the like than this fantasy people have of "hacking" the election.

Well, Venona discovered a number of Soviet agents in America at the same time as the Red Scare, but McCarthy was going after pretty much anybody he didn't like.

Indeed. The point of the Red Scare's McCarthyism isn't that there weren't legitimate enemies, it's that the threat of legitimate enemies was used to persecute and scapegoat innocent people.

Watch The Monsters are Due on Maple Street if you need an example.

This was sort of my point, I mistakenly did not realize it was Admiral X's point. Hence the smiley face. Apologies...
