They very much do. But that's something we're all just going to have to adapt to...at least in the short term.

It's a bit harder to adapt to it when the federal government is actively censoring all mention of it in official documents.

California has some of the worst forestry policy on earth. Not only has the state itself slashed the forestry budget, but they have a worst of both worlds approach of don't mess with nature (don't clear detritus or underbrush) and protect the national parks (put out all fires even small ones)

If the state is unwilling to manage the forest why should the Fed bother.

The state of CA just got out of a drought that many would describe as a 500+ year drought. They are technically out of the drought (as it ended like in 2016 or 2017) but they still have to deal with the Santa Ana winds that helps blow the fire around. Also, global warming is clearly playing a major part to this fire as well.

The natural state of California is a desert. Global warming is an excuse for the negative consequences of shitty forest management.

These fires are not really supposed to burn so hot in November- normally the risk for forest fires is greatly reduced during this time of the year- it's Global Warming and it's just going to get worse. More likely than not, other parts of the country will become hotter and dryer as time pass and we will probably have to also deal with these types of forest fires.

I can vouch for this. My mom says in Minnesota, when she was a child in the 1950s? It got to be -40, -50 F temperature wise. Nowadays it only gets -20 F at its most unbearable. What does that tell you?

If it makes them happy, how is that so wrong? Is making people happy in a lie worse than letting them lead hellish or mediocre lives? What's so special about free will? It's made us wild, unruly, and chaotic. Our society reflects that. There's no stable order, and there's no general happiness. Depression is on the rise, crime still happens, and corrupt leaders abuse their power and never pay for it. And the sheer scope of those who have sank to disgustingly low barbaric depths of depravity and never once faced international justice for their crimes that they never felt sorry or offered up non-apologies several decades too late anonymously is staggering. I want a happy world. If that means bypassing our own inherent flaws that hold us back as a species, so be it. Shit, you're telling me if I "brainwash" someone to think they always had a million dollars, that's somehow tyranny? You know, in an imperfect world, where survival of the fittest IS the law, and where equality really is false, maybe we need someone strong and wise to lead the way. Someone with the literal powers of God, who could right all the wrongs, and who could tend to us, and who could make us happy, reward virtue and punish vice. If only. You're calling me a tyrant for taking away memories of sexual assault from victims? Especially if they were abused as helpless children? Get off your damned high horse. Hell, if I got the powers of God, I'm afraid I'd try to change history so that no one had to suffer. So some of the worst atrocities of our species, the Holocaust, the mass rapes of WWII, Stalin's purges, slavery, and other awful stuff never happened. God failed us. Maybe the right person with a big heart could do better.

Fun fact: Every home depot within a 3 hour drive of Oakland is out of masks of almost any kind. My friend in California is wearing a mask basically whenever outside. Distant objects are invisible because of the smoke haze.

He's the one calling me a tyrant because I want to slightly impose my will on others, override their autonomy, and... improve their lives and punish the wicked, especially those who get away with it.
