And I didn't see why only straight men should have to suffer. :)

I don't see a lot of people of my ilk railing against gay marriage nowadays.
Have you asked any of your queer friends if they've seen people railing against gay marriage? Maybe the people of your ilk already think you're on their side, so they don't bother.

It doesn't matter if the backers actively hated gay people. They were actively working to crush and oppress us. Whether they felt scared, or afraid, or indifferent is all academic.
I could see someone saying marriage as hard and something that can get miserable and sees it as a necessary evil to raise emotionally healthy kids, solidify societal ties and nothing else not wanting gays to have state sanctioned marriage.
So? They're still somebody who is using their view of what marriage should be to deny legal rights to us queers. Just because you can hypothetically envision a scenario where it comes from a good place doesn't make it any less harmful.

They would make the case that marriage only exists for very limited reasons and it''s as reasonable as people missing both arms wanting to serve in frontline combat.
Admiral X wrote: Mon Oct 08, 2018 4:46 pm If that's the case, they better not allow anyone else who isn't planning to have kids get married then either, and they better go back to making divorce really hard to get.
The possibility is much more on the table to begin with.

Slash, are they making this case, or are you making it and hiding behind the "just playing devil's advocate" excuse?

Year of somebody's fucking lord 2018 and I'm arguing with "actually you can oppose same-sex marriage without oppressing gay people uwu"

How old is gay marriage in the US? What made you so sure this issue won't ebb and flow?

I'd call gay marriage a civil right. Back in ancient times, marriage was just barter. Selling female bodies to the high houses and rulers to "produce strong offspring." And very religious-driven too. It's only recently in the past several decades and centuries we've started thinking about how marriage should, theoretically at least, be about a partnership with someone you love. And why shouldn't a gay couple, man or woman, be together with someone they love especially since there are heterosexual marriages out there that are more dysfunctional and aren't about love?

It's not surity or about recentness exactly. It's me being fucking depressed. We fought and bled and died for this right and I have to deal with people arguing in good faith that "have you ever thought that maybe the queers shouldn't be allowed to marry? :( No hate! No disrespect!" in the forum of a reviewer I look up to.

What indicated that SF is not some sort of wrongthinking libertarian of some stipe? That would be a natural conclusion of all the extra stuff that came after gay marriage was won. The4 Left cannot enjoy a win and relax.

Heck are you even allowed to look up at him on the left in 2018?

It's a very risky right when it comes to wealth... It's a strange right in that regard.

Fuzzy, dude, why are you even responding to the guy at this point? He's only trying to get a rise out of you.

try doing something fun, like debating minutiae of Star Trek canon or arguing over which PsychoJaneway moment was the best. Or do something productive, like writing fanfics of Janeway feeding Donald Trump to Shoulder Spider in an attempt to bribe Shoulder Spider into mating with her winged blue death arachnids to create a new super-hybrid.

Presumably Chuck, given that is who you mentioned you look up to in the post he's quoting.
