Is he wrong that it would be trending on Twitter within a day though? Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with Marvel tackleing racism or systemic oppression or whatever, but if the scenario is too implausible the message is going to fall flat. The loan scene is implausible for instance, but the cops thinking Sam is harrassing Bucky at first and not recognizing him is something I could totally see happening in real life. If you want to show a black family struggling and getting denied a loan, just show Sam's sister trying to get a loan without Sam there because of pride or something and then getting denied, hell you could have Sam show up, start getting denied again, then have the guy realize the PR catastrophe denying the FALCON a loan would be and correct himself. You would still have the system be racist, so you still get that message across, but in a believable way.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 7:05 pm The co-lead is white so what are you on about again?
FYI - the writers are black too.

Yeah, there's a lot of questions there as Sam could probably get himself on a box of Wheeties without much difficulty and that would solve any financial difficulties. Government contractors also make enough that I think he wouldn't need the financial resources of the bank in the first place for the kind of work he's doing.Beelzquill wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 7:14 pmIs he wrong that it would be trending on Twitter within a day though? Nevertheless, I don't have doubts about the guy denying the loan either because there is a huge amount of petty bureaucratic assholery in the world. The Rat Pack got Vegas desegrated by refusing to play any casino that wouldn't let Sammy Davis Junior gamble, which was most of them.
I think the cop thing was more authentic but that's because I think Sam has a lot more revenue streams than having to go to a small bank in Louisiana.

As a guy who no one can call "too politically correct" I don't mind what they're doing in TFATWS. While I'm not exactly on the front lines of "wokeness" or anything, I certainly don't deny issues exist. The situations that happened in the show, I feel are believable. Yes, the banker as a universe-saving Avenger in front of him, but he also has an African-American family working a highly externally-dependent job in Louisiana. Sure, every job is beholden to market forces, but what I mean is another oil spill, or a string of hurricanes, adds substantially to the risk. Then you have the fact that it's not a husband-wife, but brother-sister, with the sister the one actually running the business while the brother is off doing things. While none of those may be dealbreakers, I have no doubt that when it's African-American individuals in that position, the pendulum falls on the side of erring, somewhat thanks to unfortunate socio-economic stereotypes, and somewhat due to just plain racism.
The scene with the Baltimore police officers is also realistic I'm afraid. Don't forget what their world just went through. While it might be harder to pull an Adolf Hitler and blame one particular group for the snap, when people are afraid, stressed, and go through a seriously traumatic event, their fears tend to get amplified. Someone that's already a little racist, is possibly going to be more racist after all of that. Someone on the right, is going to blame the left even more. Someone on the left, is going to blame the right even more, etc. So I can see how these situations fit into the MCU.

Oh yeah really. I presumed it was his wife, which made the scene come off as awkward considering they're just now figuring out loan baggage when both individuals are supposed to give a semblance of professional decorum. This way it totally shows the burden concisely without it being contrived to plot circumstance, which could have easily happened.Zatman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 2:57 am As a guy who no one can call "too politically correct" I don't mind what they're doing in TFATWS. Just sucks that conservative America depends on either marriage or hero's journey for dire circumstance.

Obviously in a world where half the fish in the ocean just came back and there's a massive population boom, it is obviously a good investment. Sam is also very prepared for the meeting. So there's really no reason to deny them a loan.
Except, of course, that if they were white they wouldn't have been given any of the runaround.

The show seems to be doing well.
So much for the Boycott Disney movement.

Another example of classic "journalism", both We've Got This Covered and Bounding Into Comics are promoting rumors of the show underperforming from an unreliable source aka. an Outrage Youtuber named Doomcock.
People still take that hack seriously?

All I'm going to say about episode 4 right now is this: "The serum amplifies everything that is inside, so good becomes great, bad becomes worse." - Abraham Erskine ~1943

Who was boycotting the most popular company in the world?

A bunch of people who weren't happy about Gina Carano being fired.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 6:33 pm Who was boycotting the most popular company in the world?
