And y'know what compounds the boredom? The fact that there is nothing special whatsoever anymore with being a strong independent woman, or a black guy, or gay. There are thousands of shows and books with these as leads now and anyone who thinks otherwise has not explored Netflix or Amazon enough. Saying ''Wow! Look at me! I'm a gay lead!!'' may have got you somewhere back in 2010, but now you are sand on a beach. Which btw is what true equality looks like - welcome to the world of what its like to be a cisgender. We can't make money on our identity either.
Sorta like gay-dropping? That's what Mr. Chuck termed it! ;)

Yeah, and they just refuse to accept these are ALL minority groups. It's fine to market to a minority, but when you got something like ST, you just can't grow the brand that way, you lose numbers long-term. SW is too giant and has so much goodwill, I can't say the same for it. But ST was never THAT huge.

If we must have representation, can it please not be realistic? Where the majority are actually white? A nice venn-diagram type thing.

From wiki: A 2017 Gallup poll concluded that 4.5% of adult Americans identified as LGBT with 5.1% of women identifying as LGBT, compared with 3.9% of men. A different survey in 2016, from the Williams Institute, estimated that 0.6% of U.S. adults identify as transgender. Studies from several nations, including the U.S., conducted at varying time periods, have produced a statistical range of 1.2 to 6.8 percent of the adult population identifying as LGBT.
Those numbers are going to go up rapidly because one in ten millennials and one in six zoomers are LGBT. It rises rapidly because people are more willing to admit it and Millennials and younger didn't have a huge number die in the deliberately mishandled AIDS crisis.
The amount of trans people via every objective measurement I can get hold of paints an extremely small picture. Most men are very happy with having a penis and most women are very happy with having a vagina, the problems come from the artificial box put around the genders that says what you can and cannot do.
I'm actually quite fine having a penis, it's the every thing else I hated about pretending to be a man.

Not going to lie this makes you sound incredibly callous, and as someone that actually watches a fair number of content creators that have come out in the last year or so, really doesn't play out from my experience.

That's largely the result of most creative forces in media still being cis straight white men that cannot bring any of the lived experience of to the writing.

The saddest and most common story I have read tends to come from tomboys who as kids used to chop their hair short and wear trousers - and therefore MUST have been trans according to everyone around her and thus ended up in their opinion being brainwashed. Same for boys who like to play with dolls.

There is pressure among kids who do not fit into a box to take blockers now. Don't take it from me, take it from them.
And you know what? I have zero issues if someone chooses to transition.
Coulda fooled me.
Transtrenders aren't real

Transtrenders aren't real trans, because they don't transition. And never will. Those who do, face very real challenges that need attention. And let me tell you that LGBT will never be mainstream, so why can't we make it subtle in entertainment media?
Because you don't need a mainstream lobbying group to pee?

Please, for the love of Hecate, keep your comments in this thread to the ACTUAL subject of the thread, and stop hijacking it with your Woke Disney manifesto.

Transtrenders are absolutely real if they never transition. And I get the stigma of society, but the way recent trends have gone, there would be no shortage of support, as we've seen with actual republicans, so is it trans or being mentally ill? If it's the latter, then they need help. Really, so many words have been perverted past all reason they mean nothing anymore.

Will you please get off your high horse and realize there's no easy answers here?

On the primary topic, I mean. Bathroom perversion is always a concern. H, I've seen this in anime. And I see nothing innately wrong with dual-bathrooms. Coed seems weird to me. Why would anyone want that? As for trans people, I don't see anything wrong with their own bathrooms either. It is not exclusionary, it is simply preventing people with BS claims from exploiting this.

"Oh, I identify as a woman!"
"Step right in."
"Jackpot!"

Unless we're talking guards for public restrooms. I really hope that's not where we're going, and yet USA's so charged up and angry RN, I could see that being in our near future, sadly...

You say that social pressure to not transition is down as you call vast amounts of trans people fakes for not transitioning to circumstances. Not only that but Republicans demonstrably do no not support trans people as they are currently introducing vast swaths of legislation to push trans people out of public life.

There is a super fucking easy answer, let people self identify as trans as was suggested by Magnus Hirschfeld back in the 1930s.

Your not a real woman you have to use the freak bathrooms is very exclusionary. Additionally it will be used to attack cis woman that don't conform to traditional beauty standards, especially minority women.

Logical if people have to use the bathroom associated with their assigned sex at birth then a cis man could claim to be a trans man and do exactly the same thing.

I mean that is the logical end result of gate keeping who and who cannot use public restrooms.

Sex is not "assigned" at birth. Sex is observed at birth and noted. One may make a caveat that sex could be said to be assigned for someone with sex chromosome disorders, but that is not what that odd use of "assigned" really refers to, as one's sex is an objective condition. Saying that sex is "assigned" implies that it is an arbitrary decision like which classroom one is put in in grade school.

We have had sex segregated public restrooms for decades and that has not required guards during that time. Part of this has to do that someone using the restroom of the opposite sex has no right to be there and can be made to leave by the appropriate authority without question. Making it a right for someone to use a restroom designated for the opposite sex on a mere claim of being transgender (which is a subjective condition) make enforcement of such norms more difficult.

"Assigned" is apt I think. The doctor is glancing at a child's genitals and making a series of assumptions about how their reproductive function will develop in ~12 years. It works out a high percentage of the time, but given how determinative society treats that set of assumptions for every aspect of someone's life across an entire lifetime, conveying that there's ultimately an arbitrary and unscientific rational for this act is necessary when discussing the percentage of people for whom they were wrong.

(This also ignores of course that science is sufficiently advanced to alter biological sex at this point.)

No, all medical science can do is produce a spayed or neutered person who requires constant maintenance to keep up appearances. It has no capability to change biological sex at all.

If the amount of times the sight observation is correct is high, then it is neither arbitrary or unscientific.

Karyotypes are immutable, sure. Reproductive function is, at present, immutable. Every other aspect of sex is entirely possible to change with various levels of permanence.

Given this and the natural range what we call "biological sex" already exists in, it's entirely appropriate to emphasize how little thought and investigation is done before slapping a legal label that determines someone's entire caste in society on them. ~95% accuracy is sufficient for medical purposes perhaps, but for social and legal purposes? It simply not enough and understanding this is the first step to properly accounting for the remaining population and making appropriate accommodations.
