TNG- 11001001

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

AH, but Boimler ended up with an 8% score.

Not 100%

Because his life is suffering.

True, assuming that Freeman didn't make the instructor give everybody a good score in exchange for not ratting her out to Starfleet. That of course, is merely conjecture.

I mean, I assume they got a 100% except for Boimler.

Okay, that's entirely fair. Boimler Luck does make Parker Luck look pleasant by comparison after all.

There's a certain political group that wants to believe education is not really worth it. I fully believe that your "average person" when given a proper education is a lot smarter than the person 1000 years ago.

It's kind of the basis of democracy (why people who hate democracy want to state education doesn't effect the average person).
If you could pluck an average person from 1000 years ago at birth and bring them forward to today, and bring them up the same way as anyone else, I firmly believe they'd be indistinguishable from anyone else today (well you'd need a lot more than one to demonstrate anything statistically meaningfully, but the point stands).

Yeah there is nothing to suggest that humans 1000 years or even longer are naturally dumber than than humans today.

Romans for example were very intelligent. Their engineering is still impressive today.

The difference is tech level in which they can learn and improve on. We have 2000 years of improvements, trial and error, leaps, developments etc from which we can draw our education from.

They likewise have 2000+ years of knowledge and so forth to draw from. But that was far more sparse.
I got nothing to say here.

In fact, to my knowledge, what we do know indicates that humans have been essentially the same as modern ones for quite a bit longer.

Pretty much.

Though there are small changes happening. Lack of wisdom teeth in some people. That extra tendon in the wrist is going away. I have read that our skulls are getting smaller.

Aside from that, we are pretty much the same as humans from let's say 100,000 years ago.

The Horseshoe Crabs and Crocodiles think that is cute. You don't even want to know the Coelacanth's opinions.

Speaking of human intelligence, i've seen scientists argue that the Neanderthals were far from being the lumbering cavemen that popular culture would have you believe. I'm not exactly sure as to how they know this, I think its to do with examining brain size and relics. Anyway, one argument now put forth is that it was environment rather than brainpower that put the Neanderthals behind us.
The Neanderthals were fantastically adapted to living in ice age Europe whereas Homo sapiens (who evolved in Africa) were better adapted to living in a warmer climate. Problem was, the ice age ended, and Homo sapiens do so like to roam.

Basically, you probably could take a Neanderthal and put him through a modern education system as well. They didn't look all that different to us either. Kind of like Gimli.
