Battlestar Galactica: Lost World of the Gods

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

I would love you to do the episode Living Legend. That is one of my favorite episodes. Oh, and thank you for doing 1978 BSG.

Part 2:

Seems like returning to the planet their ancestors fled millennia go, embarking on a long and hazardous voyage to find the colonies, should have been saved for a little later than the very next story after the three-part pilot. Especially if, like Chuck says, it's going to be so rushed.

The first time this was aired, it was aired as a full 2 hour single presentation. Which did come off much better than when it was later split up. And Chuck is right. If you have ever watched the full run of the original BSG, you can clearly see the episodes that were intended to be the more spectacular TV movies. There are a lot of 2 parters. And they are the stories you remember. The good stuff. Saga of a Star World, Lost World of the Gods, The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, The Living Legend, War of the Gods, and Greetings from Earth. (yep, there really were a lot of 2 parters.) These are the best stories of the show. The ones that actually change or advance the status quo. All of the 1 shots are pure filler. So much so that you really only remember 2 of them. The Lost Warrior which was an absurd cowboy episode with a Cylon Gunfighter. It stands out because it is so strange. and Fire in Space, which is the closest old BSG ever came to nuBSG. A real war story with the ship badly damaged and on fire. Basically lifted from any number of WW2 Carrier stories. Including a Kamikaze Cylon.

It has to be said after watching this that i'm not sure which Starbuck I like the most: Male!Starbuck or Female!Starbuck. Both of them are capable of extreme petulance, both of them are hot-headed, both of them capable of insubordination and both of them are equally skilled. You could rely on either in a fight.

I am not sure that Male!Starbuck would punch out a superior officer. True, his version of Colonel Tigh isn't an asshole drunk, but he does seem to have a bit more respect for the uniform than she does.

Male!Starbuck is apparently harbouring secret gay feelings for his Apollo that he cannot admit to and thus harbours a jealousy towards his fiance when she stole his wingman position, whereas Female!Starbuck was able to express her feelings for her Apollo in a more normal way thanks to living in a heteronormative world. Old BSG eventually did an adaptation of Hell in the Pacific, as the franchise finale no less. It was the final episode of Galactica 1980 called "The Return of Starbuck".

something not brought up cause we are still thinking 20th century giving there tech level they don't need to spare the women or the men. Mostly cause all you need is before they go and start working on dangerous mission you harvest serveral eggs and save them. same with men sperm. then some lab will spend time growing them in a tube. Even some modern version of cloning. In one generation you can tripple your population if you wanted cause you don't need to worry about creating twins you inciminate as many eggs as you can. Only reason NOT to do this is of course over population in a star ship so you got to have a bit of control. Fact is they should gather all the women and harvest as many eggs as they can and store them then practice birth control for both man and women using labs as the only means to produce children. This will ensure every egg is recorded by which father to ensure diverse population and each amount is taking note. Very draconion but should be within the tech level shown in the show.

Very good point. This would be harder in the reboot though as their tech level is lower and their Galactica is established as being a rusty old museum piece.

As you bring up though, it comes down to morality. When you are in war for democracy and freedom with a race that sees you as an animal - and then your own government gets out the insemination tube that they use on cattle...

Jonathan Harris. Stealing the show even when he is not on screen. It's worth suffering through Space Academy just for him. Also the first episode of Ark II. The one thing nuBSG lacked was some counterpart to Lucifer. A disarming Cylon with a very dry wit.
