Now I have this mental image of Obi-Wan on a beach with one of those mirrors that help you get a tan and saying "Hello, there" to a lady who brings him drinks with umbrellas in them. But in all seriousness, in regards to series with laser swords and Wizards IN SPAAACCE, I could totally believe that Obi-Wan would just sit around and do nothing for 19 years just to keep an eye on Luke. But in regards to that I would like to see an adventure with Luke and Old Ben as the two have a history and Obi-Wan clearly already has faith in Luke before the Call to Action occours. I would be okay with a story that shows us these two interacting that shows us why Obi-Wan has such faith in Luke.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 11:54 pm Actually I find it more hard to believe that nothing happened and he was just sitting in a cave for 19 years.
Like he probably had honorable vacation hours saved up at least to go to Riza for a few weeks at least.

I agree. I personally think there's a lot of gravity they can create in the narrative and I didn't even consider that aspect you mentioned.Winter wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 2:51 amNow I have this mental image of Obi-Wan on a beach with one of those mirrors that help you get a tan and saying "Hello, there" to a lady who brings him drinks with umbrellas in them. Agreed. And the thing is, Luke's aunt and uncle tried their best to restrict their interaction, so much so that Luke seemed barely aware as to who Obi Wan was. ''Oh, Old Ben, he's that guy who lives in the mountains?'' (I can't remember the exact quote). There is plenty of time for Obi Wan to be getting up to stuff.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 11:54 pm Actually I find it more hard to believe that nothing happened and he was just sitting in a cave for 19 years.
The only problem I have is that its already pretty silly that Vader didn't bother to check the planet in which EVERYTHING in the Star Wars universe seems to happen on, so if Obi Wan makes himself a nuisance that only increases the chances that Vader should know where he is.

My guess (and this is just a guess) is that something in this series makes them think they'd already checked and he wasn't there. Draw them off, lead them somewhere else. Have an adventure off on Jedha or something.

I think it will be a trip to have McGregor Kenobi meet CGI Hamill Skywalker. I really do love it when they have a spinoff with the former main character being a completely pedestrian character. Gotham had the right idea with that show but they had to make Kid Bruce involved in the entire roundabout of Gotham's underworld.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:42 amAgreed. I do like it better than Not-Tatooine and Not-Hoth. I thought it would have been nice to come back to those planets in the sequels, perhaps nicer than visiting them in these midquels, but it was just distracting and had me wish for more CGI Lucas worlds. The only problem I have is that its already pretty silly that Vader didn't bother to check the planet in which EVERYTHING in the Star Wars universe seems to happen on, so if Obi Wan makes himself a nuisance that only increases the chances that Vader should know where he is.

If we ignore the video games, the question is. Does it really?clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:42 am The only problem I have is that its already pretty silly that Vader didn't bother to check the planet in which EVERYTHING in the Star Wars universe seems to happen on, so if Obi Wan makes himself a nuisance that only increases the chances that Vader should know where he is.
Episode 1 Anakin is from there and they leave.
Episode 2 Anakin avoids the place he was born. Despite apparently having quite a bit of autonomy. He only goes back when the force visions get too hard to ignore. (And may be what gave him the idea to torture Han to get Luke's attention later.)
Episode 3 Nothing.
Episode 4 Rebel ship flies by. Possible coincidence. He does not set foot on planet at all.
Episode 5 nothing.
Episode 6 Luke et al go there to rescue Han then get out.
According to the movies that is not much at all. Sure mentioned four times. Neither Anakin nor Luke would have even considered returning if it wasn't basically for hostages.
Others will have to say how often it appeared in the SW cartoons. I don't know them well enough.
Vader has no reason to believe he has children at all since Padme died. Presumably along with the unborn child. (I don't believe they mentioned in the prequels she was carrying twins till they were born.) Vader seems slightly surprised that Obi Wan was still alive. Almost like he thought he had died. So that may be an interesting plot point for the new show. Obi Wan appearing to die so the Empire stops looking for him.

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer Thoughts
The Extended Universe had the idea that Yoda's hiding place on Dagobah wasn't a coincidence - the very proximate cave, strong with the Dark Side, helped to conceal his presence. Obi-Wan isn't as strong in the Force as Yoda (although arguably wiser and more in-tune than he was), but he should still be setting up ripples in the Force that sensitives could feel. Is there something about Tatooine, or some location on the planet, that's strong with the Dark Side?

In regards to Revenge of the Sith and The Empire Strikes Back Tatooine DOES play a small but important role as with the former it's where Obi-Wan hides with Luke to avoid the Empire while with the latter it's where Han is taken after he is Frozen.Nealithi wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 9:38 pm

As for A New Hope it was likely intentional that the Rebels were heading towards Tatooine because Leia was looking for Obi-Wan to help get the Death Star plans to the Rebels because she knew she wasn't going to make.
The problem with Tatooine is, surprise surprise, the Disney Sequel Trilogy over relying on the planet with the inclusion of Tatooine in everything but name with Jakku and Tatooine 3 in Rise of Skywalker and Tatooine proper at the end of the series. In the other films Tatooine serves a purpose in the narrative and there was a reason to go to said planet whereas TDST just copy and pasted the planet and then returned to it for a stupid ending that I don't think anyone actually likes.
