There is some support for ending the monarchy once Liz is done with this mortal life. I read an article on Thursday where some banners or signs are being thrown up during the Jubilee to this effect.Frustration wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 5:28 pm The thing is, Liz 2 seems to have been genuinely devoted to what must be a very unrewarding job. Her family is pretty nuts, but she personally receives much respect.
Frankly, once she's gone, I wonder if there won't be more of a call to eliminate the monarchy completely, but I don't think it will happen while she's alive, if only out of respect for her.

Thing is, I don't see the British government selling all those palaces even if the monarchy were eliminated. The actual cost of the royalty themselves is probably very modest.

Re: The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
See the video I posted: The royal family OWNs those palaces and more, the gov't just gets the profits off the lands in exchange for a decent living expenses stipend for the family. That plus tourism equals a LARGE return coming from Liz & Co. for only a moderate investment.

Well if we're going to be talking about that CGP Grey video, we might as well bring up the rebuttal to that video:

Saying the royal family is an income producer is like saying that casinos raise revenue for the cities and states they're in. It's a half-truth, where the unspoken half is the damnable part.

Re: The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
How do they determine how much the monarchy is producing due to tourism anyway?

You can't really. You could look at how many people the various palaces and castles across the UK, but Versailles pulls in the crowds even though the Bourbons have been long out of power in France. That could lead to the argument that if Buckingham Palace were not a residence part of the year, it could lead to even higher revenues.

That's my point. It's not like there are vendors sitting outside the palace gates selling some Made in China cheap model of Buckingham Palace. Or hell just fish and chips.TGLS wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 12:45 pmYou can't really. I was in London in 2009. I was in the Navy and our carrier was anchored off of Portsmouth. I walked around Portsmouth, visited Stonehenge and Bath. London was a random idea of visiting the city we had.
So how much of let's say 100 pounds (or any random number) would you say went towards the number the Royals actually brought in?
Sure we saw the Palace, but we saw Big Ben, that big Ferris Wheel, Beatles recording studio and the famous street. Along with various other monuments, buildings and other stuff.
Maybe it's much more in other areas of England.
