Re: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine
So, you probably heard about the negotiated agreement in regards to allowing exporting grain from ukrainian harbours, which Russia agreed to about a day ago?
See that marked part?
It explicitly states, that attacks on ships and harbour infrastructure are forbidden in regards to this deal. Well...
Ukraine war: Explosions rock Ukrainian port hours after grain deal (BBC)
Well, there we have it. Russia can not be trusted, negotiated or dealt with. I just wish everyone who is still trying to say something akin to "We need to negotiate a peace" would choke on their words. Russia speaks one language only and it's not the language of peace or equal partners, it's the language of violence and there's only one way to deal with that state: Beat it back into their borders and let it rot from the inside out behind their self-imposed Iron Curtain V2. Nazi-Germany didn't end by pretending you could negotiate the problem away, but by iron and blood.
Queue: Russia pretending it was Ukrainian's attacking their own port in 3... 2... 1...

Re: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine
It is weird people trying to do the "peace for our time" bit when the war is happening right now.
...for space is wide, and good friends are too few.
Re: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine
People haven’t had to deal with major powers invading economically connected countries in a few generations, and would really very much like to go back to that at nearly any cost because having to deal with real consequences for imperialist war mongering is beyond their ken.
As demonstrated that’s not how this is going to work and never was, but it’s not unexpected that they would try anyway.

It's a very stilted plate of directives. Putin is surrounded by China, the middle east, Japan and India, and all the Soviet satellite states. Just look at how much intervention the west actually committed to... like none.
And CK's right. Ukraine pretty much turned into Peter Parker holding the train from going off the track.

Re: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine
I am wondering how long this will go on before one or more Nato country/ies break and want the war over even if it means Ukraine becomes part of Russia.
Including the US.
Including the US.
I got nothing to say here.

Poland and the Baltic States will not back down from this. Within Europe, Hungary (they're not sending anything anyways), Germany, France and maybe Italy are the trouble-makers, but supporting Ukraine is a thing the vast majority of Germans deem a thing worth sacrificing a lot for (it's really our politicians which keep things on the slow burner or rather, it's mostly our SPD-politicians which are the problem). My best guess is, that there's something brewing in german political circles. I wouldn't be surprised if our ruling coalition breaks apart the moment Scholz decides to not support Ukraine anymore or even before that, which will lead to new elections and I'd bet money on the Greens being the big winners in that case and that party is leaning hard into supporting Ukraine.
Also, allegedly Spain will send their surplus Leopard 2s to Ukraine. These ten tanks are basically completely trashed and need extensive work to get combat-ready. Ironically, that would enable us to undermine the constant excuse-seeking aka "training takes too long", because you could easily train the Ukrainians to use these tanks during that time. Spain did this in order to get one back on Germany, but this move may result in the slippery-slope of NATO and Europe in particulars sending actual tanks to Ukraine. Whether this happens remains to be seen, the big stumbling stone there is whether someone is willing to pay for the restoration of these ten tanks. And then Germany still has about a houndred Leopard 1s. They would need work as well, it would take some time and they're tanks from the sixties, but then again, Ukraine is fighting with tanks from the 60s against russian wonder-weapons from the 80s, 90s and, since recently, T-62s from the, you guessed it, 60s and they show that they can do this regardless on what some of our russian-loving "military experts" think.

Re: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine
The sad thing in the US is that the real main reason why some want thd war to end no matter how it ends, is so we can get Russian oil and bring down gasoline prices.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 5:10 am Poland and the Baltic States will not back down from this. Then there are some who for some reason actually believes in Putin and what he is selling.
I got nothing to say here.

Sounds kinda generic and not prolifically sad really. It's not really a matter involving the US much.

But it does. It puts your closest allies onto a frontline again, just as you were trying to reorient yourself towards the new pacific threat.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sun Jul 24, 2022 2:56 pm Sounds kinda generic and not prolifically sad really. It's not really a matter involving the US much.
