What we need is a full-on debt jubilee. All student loans forgiven.
Student debt should never have been a thing in the first place. Reagan was the engineer behind it because he saw an educated electorate as a dynamite threat.

There has to be a debt somewhere. You have to pay for for college and university.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 3:26 am What we need is a full-on debt jubilee. All student loans forgiven.

Unless you are suggesting college and university should be taxpayer funded.
I got nothing to say here.

The US government forgives debt all the time. Like they've forgiven 600 billion dollars of PPP loans given out to businesses early in the pandemic. Like those PPP loans the vast majority of student loan debt is held by the government. And of course student loan debt exists mostly to prevent the kind of wide scale college protests that occurred during the 60s from ever happening again.McAvoy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 3:13 amThere has to be a debt somewhere. Re: Student loan forgiveness, for reals this time
The government made the loans easily available. There's not much persuasive argument for forgiveness at that point, but it serves as a factor in understanding the circumstance. The other endpoint of the white hole is the recognized market value of a degree in today's age.
So while the government isn't prone to being recognized as a private franchiser of commercial pursuit, there's also forming potential ethical implications, especially in light of the housing meltdown.
Generally schools push degrees, and the information on their validity from one degree to the next isn't totally clear or established institutionally. Then there's also the rising cost of universities with a common trend longer-term directives in the form of administration or vamped services.

At this point the majority of student loan debt is compound interest anyway.McAvoy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 3:13 amThere has to be a debt somewhere. Taxes don't fund federal spending. Taxes are how the government deletes wealth and spending is how they create it.

Not wealth, money. Otherwise the Zimbabweans were the wealthiest in the world at one point.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 6:10 pm Taxes are how the government deletes wealth and spending is how they create it.

Rising costs are a product of easy availability of loans.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 12:45 pmThen there's also the rising cost of universities with a common trend longer-term directives in the form of administration or vamped services.

Unless the majority of the world is willing to dump the US dollar as a reserve currency the US can print as much money as it wants with relatively little consequence.TGLS wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 8:07 pmNot wealth, money.
