Barbie Movie

Post by Fuzzy Necromancer »

What did you all think of it? I was prompted to see it partly by the sheer outrage a stupid doll movie had generated among the people I like to see annoyed but I genuinely had a good time and found it seriously funny.

It's a delightful shitpost of a movie, self-aware in all the most cartoonish ways that really makes it sizzle.

I feel like it was surprisingly pointed in its satire.

The message being, "Barbie means a lot to a bunch of women but let's not overestimate its effects on society. It's still a fucking toy."

Also, "No one likes Ken. Not even Ken."

Ken generates a surprising amount of pity and sympathy for an antagonist who symbolizes the patriarchy.

Ill watch it when I can see it on my TV. Just not my thing.

Same thing with Oppenheimer. Even though I am a history buff and usually like these sort of things, I also can't sit through long movies without dozing off. I need to be able to pause a movie and watch it later.

Same, I'll probably catch it on streaming to see what the fuss is about but don't care enough to go to a theater.

Yep. Hell it's not even the cost for me. The theater by me right across from a bar with 24 craft beers on tap and a 12 Oz Bleu cheese burger is only $9 a ticket. Plus they got the red leather reclining chairs.

So the attraction is there for me, just not the will.

Still a bit mad at Nolan for trying to insist his Tenet movie gets released to theaters when we we're clearly not even close to dealing with the pandemic.

Tenet wasn't particularly good anyways, in terms of storyline at least. Of course acting, cinematography, soundtrack and so on was great, but that's besides the point.
