It's all in the book.
That's kinda the whole point of the mission, we're not suppose to know the full details about anyone's past but to loo past the BS everyone keeps trying to sell us to see the ugly truth, none of our choices are good ones. All these people are liars, cheats and murders who will turn on us as soon as we are no longer of use.

I mean I started DA with DAI so I knew next to nothing about anyone here and I quickly realized that they were all equally awful and that there was no "Good" ending to this mission. Unless you read TME you'd never know just how terrible a person Gaspard really is like him wanting to make Elf hunting legal, or that Celene is no better then her cousin.

The whole point of this mission is realizing that there is no way to save Orlais from itself. Every choice you make is only going to delay the enviable. A society CANNOT last if it's built on murder and betrayal with no one you can trust and no one in this mission trusts each other EXCEPT for the Inquisition. That's why we come out on top, while the leaders were busy trying to figure out the best way to kill each other they failed to see the real threats which was Corypheus and me.

Any group that spends so much time trying to figure out how to stab itself in the back will never see the threats coming from outside.

I remember when Celene said "We will not bicker while Tevinter plots against us at our door" I said, out loud, "That hasn't stopped you before."

I saw what the game was trying to tell me, "You cannot save Orlais, you cannot change who these people are. All you can do is try to find the best way minimize the fallout when this all comes crashing down."

That's why I have Celene and Briala reconcile, not because I think they truly do love each other but because it will take longer for them to turn on each other AND this will improve the lives of the Elves in Orlais. Basically this is the "least bad" option here and I love the mission for that. And again, I didn't read TME until after the game and when I did I went "Yup, that's pretty much what I suspected."

I think that ending is the worst for the elves because Briala will always choose Celene over the elves and needs to go cold turkey.

A good chunk of the elves run off to join the Dread Wolf in the end no matter what, so I don't know that it matters who sits the throne on that score.
When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty.
