I swear they had four episodes of 'This guy doesn't respect his tribe cause he prefers science and must remember his spiritual ways and also this supernatural belief is really Oberon's kid.' The arc went on TOO long, repeated itself, and while some good was in it, all in all they really should have cut it in half. It felt like years they were on that damn boat.
The thing is, it wasn't all that many episodes (especially considering how long the season was). The trouble was mostly that due to the studio rescheduling things and demanding more at the last minute, the arc was drawn out with reruns to fill time. When I binge-watch it now, that storyline goes by pretty quickly. Even so, it was only three months (Nov 23, 1995 - Feb 22, 1996), some of which would likely have been reruns anyway over the holidays. I do admit that eighteen episodes where the themes are fairly similar (with a few stand-outs) can be wearing for the audience (and Greg's talked about that quite a bit since). As a mythology fan, I enjoy most of these episodes and seeing the Gargoyles universe version of favorite characters (and how it all connects).

Of course, it might feel less meandering in the long run too if the backdoor pilots they were meant to introduce had been picked up by Disney. Still, looking at the episodes in that arc, I can't really select any where I can say "this is removable without consequences". They all contribute something to an important character or plot element that comes back later, and did so much to make the show feel like it takes place in an entire world and not just New York City.

Avatar The Last Airbender is one of the best animated films produced in the USA. It's easily up there along side shows like Batman: The Animated Series and The Transformers. It is to the 2000s what those shows were for the 80s and 90s.

But a Saber-tooth moose lion is easily the dumbest thing in the entire franchise.

There is a reason you rarely, if ever see horns on a predator much less antlers. It doesn't look scary, it looks dumb. I think it was added to the show as a joke because it is never seen or mentioned ever again.

For me the problem came from me remembering this when I watched it as it aired... and It got boring when I recognized they repeated the same plot. For the third time. Was the boat arc as long as I said it was? No. Did it feel it? Oh very much yes. Too be fair to the show, they DID get away from the boat... but that actually KINDA made it worse for me cause I wanted Goliath and Elise with the gang, not episodes where they don't exist.
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

Oh yeah, it definitely matters that it feels long, certainly!

Yeah but then again, other than the Easter island episode which wasn't bad felt the most skippable of the lot of them.

That one's probably the most skippable entirely, yeah. Of course, if the spinoff series it was a backdoor pilot for had happened, that might be different. I do enjoy Avery Brooks though.

Agree, but I don't know if any actor can save the fillerness of this episode.

Sounds like the difference between what evolution discovers is scary and dangerous and what designers think does.

For a more artificial example see fantasy armour.

I'm still convinced that they got that from George along with King Bran. Then as there's no more books we'll never know for sure.
