It can only be DS9 if we're talking about the Season 3-5 period. The first two seasons, people were complaining about it being too slow with a lot of people not liking the Bajor politics episodes, and in the last two seasons, the pagh-wraiths taking over the show was really annoying.

I am just going by memory. I was there when episodes were aired and we all talked about it. The first two seasons were a bit before my active time on the internet due to... Well not have internet at that time.

I remember we kinda accepted each season as is, and then critiqued it as a whole. But I never saw anyone wanting a whole season redo. Maybe Season 7 due to the whole thing with Ezri and Jadzia Dax, but even then Ezri Dax was beloved by the fandom due to how cute she was and interesting episodes. But I don't recall a mass fan outrage to do a redo of Season 7 but with Jadzia.
I got nothing to say here.

Definitely it started with DS9 rather than Voyager. In the great webcomic boom of the early 00s back when strips like Sinfest, PvP online, and Ctrl Alt Del still seemed like pretty neat ideas, some that had been around since the 90s started getting attention enough for me to give them a go, and I remember finding more than a few strips on archive binges that came out while s1 was airing for the first time, and there were lots of jokes about boldly going nowhere.

I think it has to do with the rise of serialization in television media. Nobody talks about The Simpsons in this way (well, unless they just want the show to end, but that's different). Many serialized shows have season long plots that create structural problems that can't be fixed with out tearing the whole thing apart.

It doesn't help they want twist without thinking about what it means for the story or give the twist time to matter.

I originally wrote a really long post here, but the forum ate it. so I'll just give the Reader's Digest version, which is that at the time, there were a lot of people wishing the war had ended earlier, so that we could have had an epilogue focused on the aftermath—particularly, we could 1) see what happened to Cardassia after all the destruction, and 2) whether Bajor ever joined the Federation (you know, the original premise of the whole show). As a side benefit of doing this, they could have cut down on a lot of the incessant filler that Seasons 6 and 7 were plagued with.

I think just about everybody also wished they'd chosen something different to do with Dukat as well (or just written him out of the show post-Sacrifice of Angels).

Personally, I would have liked to either lose or dramatically change a bunch of things: the pagh wraiths, the less interesting new direction for the Prophets, Section 31, Vic, all that damn filler, etc.

See I think people did absolutely talk about The Simpsons that way. That show got so much internet criticism during what we now call the classic years or golden age, and that was how we got the Poochie episode so the writers could slap back and call their fans ungrateful and entitled. There was also apparently an online schism caused by Marge vs the Monorail in regard to where the show went from a subversive sitcom to something far more wackier.

THE ACOLYTE - PHIPPS EDITION

The Jedi send a team to Dathomir because why not, to deal with a group of witches that are viewed as Dark Siders and practicing evil magic. That's when Sol finds out there's some Sith relics located in the place and everything goes to Hell.

In this version, Sol is basically a crazy renegade Jedi who believes the Sith have returned and is hunting down signs of them despite everyone viewing him as nuts. He's still training Osha as a Jedi, though the Council is ready to fail her and close to expelling Sol.

In this version, Sol finds there's a group of Sith and Dark Side worshipers that are still existing and killing Jedi. Osha's sister is one of them and killing Jedi to prove her worth to their Master. The big twist in the end is that Sol tracks down their Master....and kills them and the rest of the Sith are arrested. VICTORY.

We then discover that Qimir is actually an agent of Darth Plagueis (not necessarily his apprentice) and that this was all an elaborate plot to eliminate a rival Sith cult. Qimir tries to corrupt Osha by revealing that Sol killed her mother but Osha refuses to murder him and becomes a true jedi. Qimir flees and rescues the defeated Mae, offering to take her to the "real" Sith.

Sol is expelled from the jedi order even as they recognize Osha as a full Knight. Osha decides to tell Sol they're going after the Sith.
