So apparently you can be canonically (as opposed to implicitly like a lot of games in the last few years have had) transgender, it actually comes up later, and it isn't attached to anything in the character creator.

I did get to play a couple hours yesterday and honestly this game, it's writing, and it's art style does feel like Dragon Age to me. Specifically Dragon Age 2, if it had had development time and a budget. For good and for bad. There's even the framing device that Varrik is telling the story, although I have no idea who he's supposed to be telling it to.
Except for the cartoony zombie Darkspawn that look like Fortnite refugees. That I have absolutely no idea, it's even weirder in context than it looked in the trailers.

Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

I'll be playing it once I'm done with Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster. DAV and HZDR were games my dad were looking forward to so I'm playing them in memory of him. I've gotten to know these characters through the Podcast series Vows & Vengeance and have come to like them and hope they're just as well written in the game as they are in the Podcast.
On a side note, I do wish BioWare had just been upfront about Taash being non-binary instead of avoiding answering the question. I feel rude every time I get their pronouns wrong which happens more then it should be cause Taash used she/her for so long. When I know a character is non-binary earlier (like Double Trouble or Rain in the Owl House) I have no issue remembering the characters pronouns and sticking to it but if I don't know I have trouble switching over.
This is a me thing, I'm the idiot here people who are non-binary are non-binary and I'm assuming this is tied to Taash's character arc but I don't see why that had to be hidden here. Maybe when I play it I'll understand why but I wish more people working on this game besides the lead director were upfront about Taash because I hate being rude and using the wrong pronouns is rude.

Taash user she/her when you meet them. I assume coming out is part of the storyline but I haven't got there yet.
Edit: In a later mission Taash's mom casually misgendered my character so oh yeah that's definitely where this is going.
