DS9: Strange Bedfellows

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

DS9: Strange Bedfellows

Post by clearspira »

The more i watch this mini-arc involving Worf and Ezri the more and more convinced I am that the Trill were 100% correct in making relationships between the partners of previous hosts illegal.

I sincerely doubt that this was intentional. In fact, unless I'm missing something, I am actually convinced that the writers have forgotten that this was a thing. Why didn't the Trill government come after Ezri the moment she got assigned to DS9 and warn her off Worf? They sure were quick back in "Rejoined" to show their faces. She has broken every law that got Jadzia in trouble back then and then some.

In my opinion, there was some very dubious consent going on when Ezri had sex with Worf. I'm not saying Worf is a rapist or anything like that, but it is made very clear that it only happened because of Jadzia's memories. She was not in full control when she bedded Worf - in effect, she roofied herself.

And this is someone remember who was introduced to us as someone who hates coffee and yet could not stop drinking it because Jadzia liked it, so it is established that these memories are affecting her in that way.

It seems to me that a law that was originally intended to be the obstacle of our Super Special Episode has actually come full circle and proven why it is a common sense law that needs to exist.

Only thing I've got is that I think maybe non-Trill partners don't count? Been too long since I've rewatched DS9 so I can't remember if that was specified or not.

But yes it is just another example in regard to why Ezri was not a positive add for s7.

I suppose Worf and Ezri didn't report it to the Trill that they had sex.

I do like the rule in that it does make sense. For a joined Trill having a rule that they can't go back to their previous partner of the previous joined host. No matter if that partner was joined or not or Trill or not or an alien or not.

One thing that amuses me ever since the whole Season 7 thing with Ezri and Worf, is what if the next host was a man. How would Worf handle that?

Was it just unfortunate that the next host after Jadzia was female and a cute one at that?
I got nothing to say here.

I mean notably they flat out don't work because Ezri is so different despite having Jadzia's memories.

Trill hosts appear to be a "X Doctor" situation in that they have completely different personalities but all the skills and abilities.

Curzon being a dirty old man and Jadzia being a hyper-competent super achiever and Ezri being a clumsy dork.

I would argue that Jadzia had her fair share of ''dirty old man'' moments she just got away with it because she is not an old man and society holds hot young women up to different standards particularly in the 90s. Worf stops short of verbally slut-shaming her but it is implied that is absolutely what he thinks.

But I do get where you are coming from.

Worf is as cis-gendered and hetero and a Hollywood fratboy jock so ''confused'' would be likely lol.

We are about twenty years too early for this but if Ezri was gay or lesbian then I think that could have made for an interesting plot - especially with the whole consent issues of the sex that I mentioned previously. Let's be honest, it couldn't have been any less interesting than what we actually got.

They could also go back to the TNG Trills. I know the meta reasons for the change but I am still confused in-universe what happened. Was that retconned out or are there two species called the Trills? I hear that there is a human Trill in DISCO but I do not watch it so I cannot confirm that.

Anyway... could be fun.

Ooh! A Romulan! Now that would have been more interesting than Ezri. It's not even that unlikely when you really think about it as the Feds were allied with the Romulans at this time. Bring back the woman who controlled the Defiant's cloaking device. It wouldn't even be that difficult as she was played by Seska's actress and Voyager was filming in the same studios.

Well I would find a male Ezri, Erzo? Ezro. Anyway, Erzo interacting with Worf even within the confines of the 90's but also us knowing how Worf is, woukd have been interesting. I doubt Worf would be portrayed as confused as 'should I still be in love with this person or not'.

Given some of the 'lol gay' jokes they were making with Bashir and OBrien I think it's for the best they didn't go that route.
