That's honnestly one of my favourite things to come out of SNW. It rather neatly sorted out so many continuity snarls, and it was made all the better by how understandably frustrated and grumpy that romulan lady was about it.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 9:44 amStrange New World DID canonize the sliding time scale but for other reasons.

The sliding time scale just makes it worse imo. This is not Doctor Who or The Simpsons. Alternate timelines and universes were always their own thing. Prime, Kelvin, Mirror etc.
What they have done here is lock the door after the horse has already bolted.
In fact, speaking of Kelvin, it is quite remarkable to me in retrospect that Abrams showed more respect to this franchise than Kurtzman did.

To me Kurtzman doesn't seem to hate trek he just an idiot without direction.

Kurtzma has a skewed version of Star Trek. To the point I don't even think he knows Star Trek but he think he does.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 10:49 pm To me Kurtzman doesn't seem to hate trek he just an idiot without direction.
Look you can make your cast as inclusive as you want. Star Trek was based on this. But IMO you still have to include that brigjt future part of it too.
I got nothing to say here.

I will praise the diversity of Discovery but than you have the characters come off so hollow when a lot of them seem interesting.
Will say, DID despise Stamets, but I'm glad he wasn't written as a clear over the top gay character. I just hated Stamets cause he was a terrible person and was terrible to everyone.

Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

The diversity never bothered me that much, despite what some here thought when I critiqued Discovery as a whole. My problem with Discovery outside the usage of characters is the feel of it. To me it didn't feel like Star Trek. Felt like for example the Expanse more than Trek. Strange New Worlds feels more like Trek in comparison. Picard feels far removed from its TNG days. Like there is a disconnect.Nobody700 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 3:38 am I will praise the diversity of Discovery but than you have the characters come off so hollow when a lot of them seem interesting.

I am not going to get into a Discovery Retrospective review on it. It's just how I feel with Kurtzman's Trek.

Tilly was the character that I despised the most. I'm told that she gets better and that's great if she does. But I cannot stand ''i'm so wacky!!'' characters in general, and she is the biggest ''i'm so wacky!!'' main character in Star Trek short of Neelix. And you know what? At least Neelix had the excuse of being a con man suffering from Dunning Kruger Syndrome. Tilly is played straight.McAvoy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 5:03 amThe diversity never bothered me that much, despite what some here thought when I critiqued Discovery as a whole. Re: Star Trek Section 31 Trailer has dropped
Tilly was my favorite by far and her absence killed a lot of my interest in the series. Why? Because she seemed to be the only person who wasn't in some sort of grimdark Battlestar Galactica reboot but actual Star Trek where people live in a utopia and like to explore space.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Dec 14, 2024 1:52 pm Tilly was the character that I despised the most. I initially liked Tilly because well I like redheads and I thought she was cute. I eventually got over it but I think for me she would be a character to look at on a re-watch.
Her character progression seems off to me and I just cannot put my finger on it.
