I don’t really ever think of these shows in terms of screen time. I never watch an LDS and think “oh man if only these were 20 mins longer like the live action shows”. I never watch TNG and think I’m being robbed of an extra 5 mins of footage just because TOS used to run 50 mins per episodes.
Same deal when it comes to the terrestrial broadcasting and streaming models. Would I like 26 episodes a season? Yeah, but that’s just the nature of these business models being so vastly different in terms of how content is distributed.

I'm not ready for it to end.

I was not ready for it to end either, but man I'm glad I got that show.
I fear that's me done of really being excited for new Trek for the next decade. Sure there's SNW but only on occasion has it hit the same way that Lower Decks did.

So given where we are this seems like the appropriate accompaniment to this finale:

Funny you should mention that. My feelings also evoked a certain song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ussqi3nagrQ
Oh man. I think I'm not gonna be okay for a while. I'm glad it was a little longer than usual. I'm glad we got Mariner's outro.
This might sound silly, but well, you cling to the little things, and Star Trek Lower Decks was one of my reasons for living. Looking forward to the next season or next episode was something I clung to during really dark times. I know there will be other shows. Hell, I know there will be other Trek. But this show? This is the most emotionally invested I've gotten in a TV show for a long, long time. This show provided a lot of fuel for my heart. I'm going to need time to grieve.

One thing I kinda wish had happened that didn't: all those recurring AI enemies-they-made-into-friends riding in as the cavalry on a refit Texas class ship captained by the good Badgey. Just felt like a missed opportunity when that was such a big plotline across the series.

Re: Lower Decks season 5
I thought they were setting it up for plenty of TNG cameos and perhaps a sendoff from them, and was looking forward to that but in the end I'm glad they didn't. The set up for them but in the end not appearing (other than the ships in the shot around the station) was the confidence in the Cerritos - it didn't need the Enterprise and her crew didn't need, say, Picard or Riker to vindicate them. They can stand on their own. So I'm very sad to see Lower Decks go but they got to go out on a high on their own terms.
And I've still got a faint bit of hope we'll be seeing something more of them at some point in the future.

After I've had some time to think and cool down, I liked the finale, but I really don't understand why they had Rutherford lose his implant.

Doylist answer: They want to do some more live action Lower Decks stuff and this would save him hours of makeup.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 6:51 am After I've had some time to think and cool down, I liked the finale, but I really don't understand why they had Rutherford lose his implant.
Watsonian answer: The implant was only part of the coverup to begin with.
