We all knew these guys were middle school bullies who never grew up, but it's still weird to see grown men pulling a Mean Girls routine and trying to act like it's normal dignified adult behavior.

Trump-Zelensky meeting was horrible. Trump is going to use this to abandon Ukraine.

It was bad. They were bullying him. Like one reporter asked why he wasn't wearing a suit. But of course they forget about Musk.

Then having Vance and Trump talking over Zelenskiy when it got tense.

From what I have heard and seen, the Republicans universally praised Trump which is to be expected.

I have a theory on this. I think that Zelensky was indeed invited there to be humiliated... but Trump and Vance misjudged what was going to happen. I think that in their fantasies they would be meeting a guy crawling to them on hands and knees, that he would sign the deal, passively take the abuse, look weak next to big strong Trump, and then shake hands with all of the creatively shot photographs making Trump look like the Alpha and Zelensky as the little guy.

I don't think it was staged as an excuse to remove his own support so much as to remove everyone else's support - because that is how Trump thinks. He is a dinosaur. He deals in 1950s notions of how ''real'' men should look and act and thinks that everyone else does too.

But that is not what they got. They got a guy who fought back. And the thing about being a former comedian and actor that Trump and Vance missed is, you have to be pretty damn creative and quick on your feet to be a good one. And his response to Green's boyfriend of (paraphrased) ''i'll wear a costume after the war is over - like yours but cheaper'' was inspired. Personally, I think that you could tell on Vance's face that this was not at all the reaction that he was hoping for.

Only MAGA and Putin could possibly think that this interview did not backfire. Instead of looking weak, Zelensky ended up getting the support of about twenty European countries immediately afterwards. Zelensky is now the leader of the free world. Not Trump, not America.

The entire setup reminds of a kind of "mediation". MTG's fuckstick is just an arsehole in general, so disregard that happening. Vance was the provocateur, Trump mostly sat there and listened (until he didn't) and Zelenskji was there to get mighty offended, but just remainded calm, which in turn provoked Trump into action, because Zelenskji robbed him of the chance to be the "elder statesman".

Also, take note of Zelenskji's speech pattern. He deliberately slowed down his vocalization in order to get a few moments of thoughts and breathers in. He often does this and it serves him well, as in this case. He can and does speak English much more fluent than he usually lets on.

On thing that I haven't seen in this thread is how the head of the joint chiefs, chief of naval operations, and several JAG heads were all fired a week ago. Also the head of the joint chiefs is being replaced with a retired 3 star that isn't qualified to take the position.

Again going to the point there is SO MUCH happening it is hard to keep track of everything that is happening and to a degree that is the point. Make so much of a mess in so many locations it is hard to spot everything.

This. Even media is having trouble keeping up with everything. Between Musk and whatever Trump signs or says it's so much going on that things will be overlooked until someone says 'oh wait a minute'.

I saw at least one democratic senator plans to skip the address to congress. I hope more follow suit. Time to start treating him like the serious threat he is in their request for donation emails.
