Anyone watching Dr Who?

Post by clearspira »

I genuinely know of nobody. I'm not exaggerating. Most people I know didn't even know it was back on.

Supposedly the deal with Disney was for two seasons. Somehow I cannot see there being a third but we'll see.

But if you are... thoughts, opinions, and reviews below.

I watched the first Disney+ episode with the new Doctor, thought it was fun, and promptly completely forgot about it and never followed up when more came out.

I think I've actually said that on this forum before and then completely forgot again.

Only have seen a couple of episodes of Doctor Who and they were old ones when I was a kid. It was around noon. It went Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who. It was a station that played them and when I was sick my Mom took me to work. I spent alot of time in the conference room watching that station, only a handful I could get with the antenna at the time.

It kinda is on my list to watch, just the newer stuff that came out in the past 20 years. But it is low.

Even as a kid I couldn't get past the upside down trashcan with a toilet plunger and a mixer as weapons.
I got nothing to say here.

I stopped watching after the first ep with the lady Doctor. Honnestly it really wasn't her fault or the new show runner. It seemed fine enough to me. I was just so burned out by Moffat's time on the show that I was just done.

I watched the three episodes reuniting Donna and the Doctor, and thought they were okay to genuinely great. Especially the second one's space horror stuff, Spice up your life, and the "Well that's alright then!" which I rather enjoyed for dissecting some of the choices of the Moffat era.

Watched the first Christmas episode with the goblins and it left me non-plussed enough to figure I'll get to the new series when I feel like it. Then I had a really bad year and wasn't much in the mood for anything new so pretty much just watched comfort stuff.

Watched the most recent Christmas episode, and wish I hadn't cause it was bloody Moffat back to wreck things like he usually does.

Had been looking forward to the animated episode but hadn't got round to checking it out, and I'm hearing it was disappointing so that's unideal.

I've not but then again the only modern Doctor I saw all of was Christopher Ecclestone (a bit easier when he only did one series).

Last season had its hits and misses but was enjoying it overall until the finale completely dropped the ball, leaving a bad taste.

I am enjoying this season so far, the previous two episodes from this week and last week were good watch in my opinion.

I really like Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, I feel he grasped the character a lot better than Jodie Whitaker did, my only issue is that he sheds tears too much. Got no issue with the doctor crying once in a while since Tennant's Doctor did but Ncuti's Doctor over does it.

Jodie Whittaker is the worst Doctor of all time imo. I admit, I wasn't open to a female Doctor from the get go, but she never once convinced me that behind that gender swapped body lay the brain of the Doctor. The Doctor is meant to be a character who has simultaneously lived a thousand lifetimes and yet has never lost his childish wonder. He is old AND young, serious AND silly, wise AND foolish.

Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, David Tennant and Matt Smith imo captured this the best. But I would say that Capaldi and Gatwa are very firm runners up even if I do not like their scripts. The problem as you say is, it should take A LOT to make this man break and cry. I believe the current total has Gatwa crying in more episodes than he is not.

This is just my personal opinion, but I also think that the Doctor should be on the asexual scale. Not completely, he's not a Vulcan, but I do not like how easily Gatwa's Doctor falls in love. Or Tennant's for that matter. I accept that, like Batman, the Doctor being a loner really does not actually hold up to close scrutiny given how they both have like three thousand friends, I just think that the character works better when he has a traditional Sherlock Holmes attitude to life.

I think Jo Martin's Fugitive Doctor did a better job at being a female Doctor than Jodie did, as I do feel she felt more like the Doctor in the few scenes she was in than Jodie did in her entire era.

Personally, I could take or leave the Doctor falling in love as long as it's not overdone. I do agree the Doctor having a Sherlock Holmes attitude works best though. Although I have to say the classic Hartnell story, The Aztecs has my favorite take on the Doctor falling in love, because it's hinted he did develop feelings but doesn't outright say it.

I don't like being a doomer because I've been enjoying this season so far but I feel this situation is like what happened to the show in 1989. No matter how much the show improved, it's not getting the viewership it had pre-Chibnall and that's worrisome.

I have to ask. Is Doctor Who worth watching for an American like me. Previous post I did watch some episodes of older ones and I just didn't get into the low production value. As in a garbage can with a plunger and a mixer for a weapon. I couldn't tell you what time frame I was watching but it followed Star Trek TOS and original Battlestar Galactica.

If I recall David Tennant lead Doctor Who in a new wave of better production in Doctor Who. I might be wrong with this. Would this be a good start to watch it?
I got nothing to say here.
