Another School Shooting, this time in Florida
Re: Another School Shooting, this time in Florida
Yes, but it isn't. Sure, if you want to go with your logic, there really IS less murder using the big "assault weapons" and Mass Shootings are not a common occurrence if you look at the number. Everything else though IS higher. The amount of murder with other weapons are significantly higher.

*sigh* less murder is not a bad thing. But we need to accept that fact that People do not have better natures. given the right set of stimuli and you can get the most straitlaced pacifist to harm them self or others.

and given just a BIT of political willpower and less stonewalling from the NRA, you can make it significantly harder for obviously dangerous fuckwads to get weapons of instantaneous mass-slaughter while still allowing responsible citizens to hunt food and defend themselves.
Like, I gotta ask, does you not having access to an AK47 or having to wait a week longer for a background check really interfere much with your personal freedoms? Does it negatively affect you in any significant way?

I don't trust the current political culture to set up an objective process.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote:and given just a BIT of political willpower and less stonewalling from the NRA, you can make it significantly harder for obviously dangerous fuckwads to get weapons of instantaneous mass-slaughter while still allowing responsible citizens to hunt food and defend themselves.

Yes actually. It affects my rights to have them. A waiting period has actually been proven to prevent people who needs weapons to protect them right now from being able to because they needed to wait. A waiting period does not stop anyone a determined person from using it in a crime later be it they wait a 1 day or 10 days and if real criminals want guns, they will get them off the streets, not legally.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote:and given just a BIT of political willpower and less stonewalling from the NRA, you can make it significantly harder for obviously dangerous fuckwads to get weapons of instantaneous mass-slaughter while still allowing responsible citizens to hunt food and defend themselves.

Also since we're talking about mass shootings still, an AK has never been used in one. But the point I am making is even though you might have some good intention in thinking restricting certain weapons but the people who actually make the laws don't think like they. The ultimate goal is complete ban on all weapons and so far in countries like the UK, it has made crime worse but you don't care about that.
The fact that you had to ask me about sacrificing personal freedom for anything is telling me that you don't truly understand what having personal freedom means.
The way you buzz word "instantaneous mass slaughter" is not only counter intuitive but also trying to charge a subject up. It is not as simple as "make it harder".

My turn - why do you obsess over "assault weapons" when the type of firearm most commonly used in crimes is the handgun?

Because CNN tells him. Mainstream media makes it an obsession. If the news don't talk about it, no one talks about it and no one's opinions are asked. The world keeps on spinning for you until someone pulls you aside, gets your attention and boom, they have you singing to their tone with charged buzz words.

First, I am offended that you would even suggest I watch CNN. I have SOME pride.
Earlier I got the impression you were saying that making all guns illegal in the UK and other countries just means people use different tools for indiscriminate murder, like, acid attacks or driving a truck into a crowd. Did I misunderstand your previous comments?
I feel I've come to a crux. You really seem to see ANY imposition as an unreasonable one, and ANY limitation of access to weapons as a slippery slope leading to total firearm ban. Is there no legal limit you will find acceptable?

Pretty much. Ask that question regarding any other right. One also has to keep in mind that there have been confiscations in the past, and plenty of attempts at getting around or otherwise undermining the Second Amendment, not to mention...

And yes, in the UK despite a total ban on carrying handguns for protection and even ownership on handguns except in extreme cases, there is still gun crime and all through illegal means, but that doesn't bother you it seems. There's an increase of knife crime so much so that the mayor of London wants to continue the bullshit crack down on possessing knives further to even collections and historian's livelihood to owning them is being threaten.
It's gotten so bad in the UK that if you defended yourself, even if justified self defense, you are now a criminal where in America you at least stand a chance because of laws meant to protect people who defend themselves
So yes ALL proposals to infringed upon our rights is a slippery slope of any authoritarian government designed to control its people fueled by irrational fear and misunderstanding and worse lack of trust in your fellows.
