Paramount has announced two new films in the Kelvin timeline.
The first is featuring the return of Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk.
There's no confirmation about whether the crew of the Enterprise are featuring in one or both films.
So....thoughts on what the story may be about?

If we are going to continue to mine the movies that were already made, I guess we now have to get Spock's brother to lead us to the edge of the universe or something.

Could be a time travel or mirror universe story.
I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a movie set in the Trek mirror universe.

George Kirk? Just goes to show how highly star power is valued in Hollywood, because there aren't a lot of other reasons to revisit that character.
Sounds like time travel to me, although an alternate universe is possible too. Depending on the direction of the story, maybe that would also open the door for a William Shatner cameo?
I've always been of the opinion that the new Trek movies could use more gravitas, but if they want to continue in the Marvel-ish direction, then time travel could be a fun way to do it.

Most likely the plot of the next movie will involve time travel bringing George Kirk back and he and Kirk will have to save the universe from time shenanigans. Though the mirror universe being involved could be interesting. I doubt they'll do anything with the mirror universe since DISCO is doing stuff with the mirror universe so it would seem repetitive.
In terms of Star Trek Five it would be funny if they redid The Finale Frontier but made it a good movie. But I can't imagine them actually considering that.
In grand schemes of things I just want one thing from these two movies. A villain who doesn't want revenge on the federation.

It's been well known it's a time travel story for some time.
And yes, it's the two generations of Kirk teaming up.
Though oddly, after Beyond, I'm not sure Kirk really would have that many father issues to deal with.

Now that would be something that might work with see Tarantino direct in his own style. Then instead of the "Evil equals Stupid" Universe it would be "Violent and Self Serving" Universe. I can think of a lot of ideas I would rather see over that, but that would definitely intrigue me in to seeing it. It would also be really interesting to see how marketing messed the advertising up.SlackerinDeNile wrote: ↑Fri Apr 27, 2018 2:35 pm I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a movie set in the Trek mirror universe.
As far as the news, I really don't know. The idea didn't really resonate with me when they first mentioned it when Beyond came out. It also is going to be difficult now with Hemsworth being the bigger draw over Pine, so while it is supposed to be James Kirk's story I fear he would be overshadowed by George. Also going back to the time travel well for the second time in 4 films. Let's just say I'm cautiously hopeful.

A Tarantino directed movie set in the Mirror Universe would be awesome.

(also, fun fact- I know a guy who is the spitting image of Zachary Quinto, and hilariously he even grew a goatee a couple of years ago)
