Star Wars spin-offs put on hold due to disappointing Solo returns.
Re: Star Wars spin-offs put on hold due to disappointing Solo returns.
Yeah, Solo wasn't that badly received by people who saw it, it's just that most people didn't care enough to go see it. Solo likely wasn't the cause of this problem, it just happened to be the first major symptom of it.

Yes there going to be focusing on that plus Johnson's new trilogy, the films from GOT's writers, and the Jon Favreau TV series.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri Jun 22, 2018 6:30 am Since we already have at least one thread full of people addressing disappointment or satisfaction with The Last Jedi, I won't be addressing that film except very lightly.
Rogue One did OK at the box office, but not nearly as well as TFA and not quite as well as TLJ. Solo might have made a profit if they hadn't basically had to film the movie twice, but even then it wouldn't have been a big win. So there's financial reason for them to not do the side stories, whether they're blaming oversaturation of Star Wars or have just decided that the audience wants more "epic" films. I don't trust my judgement on whether or not either cause would be valid, and I'll just leave that at that.
I'm pretty sure episode IX will be filmed. In fact, I haven't heard anything about Rian Johnson's upcoming trilogy being canceled, so I see no indications that the powers that be are blaming The Last Jedi. But I cannot discount that they are being coy about it for public relations.
I am surprised that Jon Favreau's live action series will continue on, but it's supposed to be a major anchor to Disney's planned streaming service.

If nothing else, they may simply delay the side projects. Like all companies, they want to minimize risk, and they just lost money on one of these side project movies. They might take a look at how those movies are being run and probably just make it clear that the behind the scenes things that plagued Solo and Rogue One (reshoots, directors getting fired and all that) can't happen anymore. Probably will mean more direct involvement of the producers, more planning out ahead of time before they start spending the real money building sets and the like.

Love this. So glad they canning the side stories that were just blatant cash-grab. NOW GIVE US BACK LEGENDS!

Except when they aren't. The tyrants at the Lucasfilm Story Group are choosing what "elements" of Legends, what they call the "best" elements should be brought into the new canon. That includes beings dead to the Force. So no Yuuzhan Vong. That includes KOTOR 2 as well. They really should just recanonize the old stuff as its own separate continuity. Besides, we all know the EU at this point is just secondary compared to the movies. The movies are what matters because it's making Disney and Lucasfilm profit. I at least want the option they can bring Legends back someday. But right now, it's so uncertain. I honestly don't want the new stuff to succeed if Legends is still shoved into this vague limbo status.
