The deep state reveals itself...

Post by LittleRaven »

Sheesh Fuzzy. I disappear for a few days and you just let this pass? Oh...right...the cruise. Nevermind. Hope the snorkeling is everything you thought it would be. ;)

Anyway, on to business. The New York Times has published a voice of the resistance.
I work for the president but like-minded colleagues and I have vowed to thwart parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.
I really can't do the thing justice in quotes. You have to read it. It's...well, frankly, it's appalling. On just about every level.

I can totally see why the Times would print this. I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would write it. This person seems to be trying to frame themselves as some kind of patriot working to save the country as best they can, but that only works if you apply the most deeply cynical lens imaginable to American politics.

Give it a read. You will not be disappointed.

Much worse. Gorilla channel is a just a meme. This, if real, is nothing less than a soft coup.

Given that the president has backstabbed just about every person he's hired, especially in a governmental capacity, it's hardly to surprising to see somebody return that behavior. It's not Deep State so much as Disgruntled Employees.

40 seconds. Before he was really a president.

I don't know what "gorilla channel" is, but soft coup is a strong word to use.

This is some idiot of a Treasury undersecretary, or possibly Pence (he'd be wanking on about Christian values or some other religious-fundamentalist BS, though, so that's unlikely) trying to justify to himself his participation in a regime that strips away all pretense of civility and "free minds, free markets, free people" in favor of naked classism, racism, and misogyny.

The man who is ACTUALLY soft-couping Trump to stop him from ruining everything is Mattis, and he has the good sense to not brag about it and stick to quietly keeping the military free of Trump's influence, because that's how a competent man manages Twitler.

I can totally see why the Times published this pile of absolute nonsense, though. It's certainly grabbed attention, which will keep the print edition's doors open another few months and allow them to keep the actual news section unbiased and focused on important shit rather than HuffPo style celebrity gossip crap.

It is, but I honestly don't know what else to call something like this.
It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in the room. We fully recognize what is happening. And we are trying to do what’s right even when Donald Trump won’t.

The result is a two-track presidency.
Don't get me wrong. I'm pretty sure that these 'adults in the room' are smarter and better informed than Trump ever is. I would almost certainly have voted for any of them given the chance, at least if the alternative were Trump.

But I didn't vote for them. More importantly, neither did anyone else. And while every President has to delegate certain responsibilities, I can't recall another incident where delegates would outright claim they were operating in opposition to their own President.

Interesting that your more concerned that the article was written rather than what the article has to about Trump.

Did the article tell us anything we didn't already know about Trump?

--I would call it "a small man desperate to prove that he's not evil for working with Cheeto Hitler and managing only to prove that he's a scumbag willing to sell his soul for attention".

--I would've voted for them ONLY if the ONLY alternative was Trump or an OG Nazi--like, inner-circle, Hitler, Himmler, or Heydrich level psychopath. The idiot who wrote this letter is a scared little old man failing to protect his one remaining nut, and has sold his soul besides.

--Yeah, if you're appointed by the President and are customarily expected to leave with him, then you do his bidding. You can tell him "That's illegal" or "That would destroy our military's morale" or "that would piss off a very large number of very heavily-armed Marines who are trans or have trans siblings, and if you think that pissing those guys off is a good idea I invite you to say that to Max Uriarte's face" or "No, Donald, nuking North Korea is probably the worst idea you could possibly have right now", and you can make like Mattis and drag your heels complying with the blatantly moronic crap and make the entire US military spend an hour every Saturday being reminded that they're legally obligated to disobey illegal orders, but openly stating (even anonymously) that you're working against the POTUS like this is one step too far.

Don't get me wrong, I want that loathsome orange sack of shit toothless until he's kicked out of office as much as the next guy, but there are certain norms of government and the author of that article has proved that he, like McConnel and Trump, is more than happy to violate those norms and endanger national stability.
