It amuses me that so many of the people who bash on Christians for being Christian will give Islam a pass, even though they are way more hardcore on the issues they bash Christians over.

I see you've never met Billy Graham, the Westboro Baptist Church, or any Russian or American TV preachers. You think ISIS (a group so hardline most Islamic scholars consider them heretics) is crazy? Those guys give them a run for their money.

So many people are convinced that it's just naked hypocrisy, that democrats will justify all the shit evil Christians do but for Muslims, and they are WRONG. Did you read the opening post? We're not bashing Christians just for being Christians, we're complaining about American Christians who foam at the mouth when somebody says happy holidays, or who view the existence of other religions as a form of anti-christian oppression, or who stab muslims on trains or shoot up black churches or blow up Planned Parenthood.

As a bisexual member of a religious minority, I have reasons to think that, if some skinheads and Alt Reich creeps come after me with tiki torches and assault rifles, all other things being equal, I have a better chance hiding in a mosque than in a church.

I am well aware of the old moral crusaders, which is why I delight in comparing the new moral crusaders to them. I'm also well aware of ABC, which actually bothered to come to my little university to protest the fact that we have a 10 Percent Society for the LGBT peeps. The point is, no one has any problem bashing Christians over that, whether those specific Christians, or to paint all of them with a broad brush, yet when it comes to Islam being much more extreme (literally killing gay people instead of just shouting that God hates them) the same people who are all to willing to paint Christians with a broad brush will stumble all over themselves to be all #NotAllMuslims. I find that hilarious.

I've seen enough to convince me otherwise. The same applies to how feminists will suddenly become all about the cultural relativism when it comes to the subject of women's rights and Islam, to the point that in various EU countries, feminists have been literally perpetuating a rape culture by attacking anyone who's come forward about being sexually assaulted or raped as racist Islamaphobes. Hell, they attack women who have escaped from oppression in countries with Shiara law as Islamaphobes.

Personally I'd laugh at the tiki torches, and I'd meet any firearms with the most historically ironic firearms from my own collection, as I do indeed have a Mauser. It's Czech, but close enough.

Buddy, my closest online buddy is a Christian, as are my grandparents. (My parents technically are but don't really practice religion; I myself am an atheist and happily so) Nobody's saying that all Christians are evil.

And given how many homophobic attacks are committed by Jews and Christians--and even members of other religions--dude, it's not a Muslim problem, or even an Abrahamic problem. It's a problem with humanity.

Humans have a noted tendency to embrace religious fanaticism and hateful bigotry. This is something that is essentially a perversion of survival instincts that were super useful in the Pliocene when we were throwing rocks at sabretooths, but is MUCH less useful now.

The problem is that Western right-wingers will use instances of Muslims being homophobic as a xenophobic dog-whistle, much like Michael Burnham uses instances of Klingons being violent as an excuse to write the whole species off as irredeemable so that she can justify her racist hate crime of a preemptive strike. Geert Wilders is the most infamous major politician who does this, but people like Marine Le Pen have done it, too--the idea's a pretty simple retread of 19th century imperialism, portray the foreign culture as "backwards" and primitive and the imperial culture as "superior" and more advanced. It's just as bullshit now as it was then.
