Re: Georgia Secretary of State blocks 53,000 voters from registering
The GOP keeps hammering us over the head that it's about character, isn't it? Then when we try to point out their character flaws, that the hard right they shelter seems to be a breeding ground for really extreme misogynists and incels and Red Pillers and pedophiles, people flock to make excuses for them.

That extreme misogyny might be inside your head. Incels are people who can't get laid; that isn't a moral failing any more than being paraplegic is.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 10:36 pm The GOP keeps hammering us over the head that it's about character, isn't it? I don't know why you see "red pilled" as a moral failing, though of course some people calling themselves "red pilled" are definitely misogynistic, some people calling themselves "feminist" are misandrist.
And the ones I see defending pedophiles are on the left.

If you think the military won't gun down civilians, well, first you've never met a cop in your life, second you haven't heard of a little peaceful college protest facing off against the national guards.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 9:37 pmFirst, there is no such thing as a carpet bomb. Carpet bombing is a tactic. It's the same way you can't go to a gun store and buy well-aimed bullets.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:43 pm Laugh all you want. It could happen. Don't assume it can't happen here just because it's never happened. Especially if Orange Cheeto refuses to step down despite clear cases of criminal misconduct (and I mean beyond a shadow of a doubt), or really does try to become President-for-life like he said a few months ago. And with gerrymandering and these kinds of tactics, it wouldn't be a democracy anymore. It would be the illusion of democracy. Just like they have in Russia and other Fascist powers. If Trump introduced a bill trying to make himself President-for-life, do you see this Congress saying no to him? I don't. And don't you DARE claim the masses rising up can take it back from our corrupt leaders. I've seen others who identify as libertarian claim the same. The military has carpet bombs, jets, tanks, nuclear bombs... we'd stand no chance. At ALL despite the way our media manipulates us to have this romantic love with vigilante and cowboy justice and that good always wins.
Second, those bombs, jets, tanks, etc., need an infrastructure to keep making new parts, get them new fuel, maintain the GPS systems for the bomb, etc. If that stuff is being made in the same cities as are being bombed, it's going to dry up after a while.
Third, those soldiers in those tanks, and the airmen in those planes, are probably the same kind of people as your next-door neighbors. The members of the armed forces aren't mindless automatons, and it doesn't take a large number of them sabotaging things for a large-scale military effort to break down.
Fourth, it would take a constitutional amendment, not a bill, to legally give the president more than two terms. I mean, it's largely academic when you declare yourself president-for-life anyway, but it's a small detail.
Fifth, when Trump mentioned lifetime presidencies, all evidence is that it was a joke.
Sixth, there were all kinds of conspiracy theories running around Obama. He was going to take away all the guns and lock people up in FEMA camps. There was the same kind of evidence behind those -- pretty much none. People who believed them were determined to hate Obama and would believe anything they found that supported that, no matter how silly it was. I hope a little of that sounds familiar.

No, Incels are a chauvinistic movement that blames their lack of getting laid on everyone except themselves. Gay men, for example, aren't allowed to be incels because "gay men are always ready to have sex." It's not a mere lack of sex, it's a twisted victim complex for which women must pay with their lives. There IS no such thing as "Involutnarily Celibate". There are just a lot of horny, butthurt little creeps who are primarily left unfucked because any woman with decent instincts knows to stay five miles away from them.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 1:19 amThat extreme misogyny might be inside your head. What ones on the left are defending pedophiles? Have you seen any left-wing candidate openly admit to wanting to fuck their own children? I haven't. On the right, however, that kind of behavior doesn't even stop you from winning the presidential nomination.

There is such a thing as "involuntarily celibate." Guys (or gals, more rarely) can lack access to sex.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 2:49 amNo, Incels are a chauvinistic movement that blames their lack of getting laid on everyone except themselves. Your left-wing candidate question is a straw man argument. You should know what those are by now.

I have met cops, so your logic or assumptions must contain an error.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 2:46 am If you think the military won't gun down civilians, well, first you've never met a cop in your life, second you haven't heard of a little peaceful college protest facing off against the national guards.

And if you mean Kent State, you might want to read up on your "peaceful protest" there, sonny.

For the Salon article, is this a pedophile who never acted on those deplorable instincts? If so, then as much as that's a horrific failing, I have to applaud him on that. Many with the same twisted feelings could learn a thing or two from said person. We all have disgusting instincts. We can choose not to act on them.
Trump admitted to wanting to bone his daughter. His daughter that's... younger and... is a child compared to him. That and there was this big stink about this pedophile on the GOP side in 2014, I forgot his name. Was it Josh Duggar? I think it might be. I think the big problem with the GOP is they let people in their party with serious moral failings, and don't call them out when the time comes. Look at Anthony Weiner of the Democrats. He crossed the line, and he was ejected. Same with Al Franken. That shit doesn't happen on the Republican side. They don't take on their own. It's like a big mafia. "You don't go against the family!"
Furthermore, as Germany proved, when your family is at threat from state oppression, most people won't resist, just sit back and look out for those they care about, those they love.

Kent State is one of the reasons I'm a big supporter of the Second Amendment, incidentally. Not to mention that the history of Natives handing in their weapons to the US Government is replete with examples of why that isn't a very good idea.

Oh boy. Where to start?Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sun Oct 14, 2018 9:57 pmTrump I could see amending the Constitution to do just that. I also don't buy the argument that we're a community, thus a military dictatorship just CAN'T happen here. Don't assume invincibility. Don't. It could happen. Don't believe in the personal fable. It happened in Germany. It's happened in many other American republics down south past the equator. It could easily happen here.
First, Trump CAN'T amend the Constitution. That's outside his power. If you want to do that, you need 290 Representatives, 66 Senators, and 33 states to ratify it. Or you could skip the Congressional part if you have 37 states. But either way, that's not Trump doing anything. That's the country as a whole doing it.
Of course a military dictatorship could happen, but the odds are very, VERY bad. We're nowhere near the level of political dysfunction that existed in, say, the Wiemar Republic, and we don't have the same history of autocratic rule that Germany had in the 1920s. We also have a very well-armed population, and one that would get uppity very quickly. As we saw in Iraq, the military ultimately can't handle that. No, guys with assault rifles cannot 'beat' the US military, but they can make the country ungovernable, and if that ever happened to the US, our military would fall apart very fast. What makes our military great is lots and lots of high tech toys, and those are very, very expensive and require LOTS of maintenance. The military would starve very quickly if the US became Baghdad.
And at the end of the day....why? What possible math justifies the almost certain destruction of the country? What could someone hope to gain? Anyone that's in a position to make that kind of play already has virtually everything the world has to offer.

Okay, I guess you put that into a proper context. Thanks. I do see lots of young libertarians not even twenty years old insisting to me we could overwhelm the military somehow, lol.
