Re: Oakland Shooting "No Way To Prevent This"
And don't you dare push that anti-gun control agenda either. Because the alternative, letting people just have an unfettered access to any kind of gun they want, to take wherever they want, is not an option either. And the reason this is the case is the same reason those pushing an anti-gun control agenda like to sneer we can't point to other countries having lower crime rate statistics - because of population. California is one of the densest states in the Union with forty million people. If you're not going to have sensible, strong gun laws, what's your backup plan? Just let people have whatever guns they want? That leads to anarchy and chaos. I want tighter regulations on guns, improving background checks, an assault weapons ban like we had till 2005, and handing out harsher penalties for illegal gun trafficking. I think over time, those policies would work. But given the stranglehold gun makers and gun lobbyists, not actual responsible gun owners, have on our elected officials with campaign fund contributions, no way that's going to ever happen under a Republican President or a Republican-led federal government. No way. Newtown proved that. Dead children became the acceptable price for some vague Libertarian "gun rights for all!" mumbo-jumbo.

And he got that gun from out of state presumably? States that are pro NRA presumably?Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 10:50 pmCalifornia has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. The shooter had an illegal in California extended mag. The illegal extended mag he used turned his gun into an illegal in California assault weapon. He brought a gun into a gun free zone.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 9:58 pmAs long as the NRA hold all of that power you are screwed. I cannot see the US ever improving when it comes to guns.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Sat Nov 10, 2018 4:16 pm Look at me. I live in a constant state of fear, not out of paranoia, but simply knowing I am a target. That I could be killed at any moment. There was someone who went on a stabbing spree in my own town. I know a radical killer or a hostile nation could murder us all at any time. I've been having nightmares about nuclear bombs since 2016. I had one just the morning of the shooting. Do you see me going around butchering people? It solves nothing. It's just one more bleeding wound inflicted on us as a society. So how DARE people blame this on PTSD. How dare them. It is a well-known fact bad people can experience the same emotions we can, they just react to it differently. And you can't judge someone by how they think or what they feel or say, only by what they do.
Don't give me any bullshit about the "all powerful" NRA
Uh-huh.

He bought the gun legally, in California. It's not a special gun or anything. It's a .45 Glock. Absolutely run of the mill.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Nov 11, 2018 12:35 amAnd he got that gun from out of state presumably? States that are pro NRA presumably?
I don't know where he got the magazine.

Now call me a "bleeding heart liberal," but I believe someone's "right to a gun" should not supersede someone's "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." This reminds me of the TNG episode "The High Ground." The cycle all begins when we decide to voluntarily disarm. It must be a choice otherwise it has no meaning. And even in this climate of fear, and pain, and terror, constantly expecting attack, even with a fucking stabbing in my city, I refuse to give in to hatred. I won't arm. Even if that means my life. It all begins with us deciding to put down our guns. And I refuse to carry those weapons of murder even if you can make logical arguments for handguns being used for home defense and rifles being used for hunting.

The ethics of pacifism are an interesting dive.

Being in favor of stronger gun regulations doesn't make me a pacifist, for the record.
Anyway, here's a letter to the NRA from healthcare professionals who spend lots of time getting bullets out of people! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... A0IOmHQBzA
Here's a few words from one of the survivors!

I can't stand people who thinks the NRA shouldn't be sued for mass shootings. Or compares a gun to a damned hammer. A hammer can't kill dozens or hundreds in seconds.

Re: Oakland Shooting "No Way To Prevent This"
I'm curious what gun regulation you think could have possibly stopped someone from legally acquiring a pistol.
This was not exactly a machine gun. The basic design for this gun is over 100 years old. Genies do not go back into bottles easily.

It's funny how the NRA has become some kind of an illuminati boogeyman to the anti-gun types. Funny because the NRA has actually lost membership because they've actually gone along with some anti-gun measures. Personally I view them in the same light as the ACLU - frustrating but mostly useful.

Well, they don't represent responsible gun owners. They're controlled by gun makers. Difference.
