Ron Moore. Definitely. He always seem to have his finger on the pulse of what the Trek fandom wanted.

Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens. They joined Enterprise when it got good, and, having read some of their novels, I don't think that's coincidence.

Peter David
The guy has written some of the best Star trek books out there, and just GETS what makes Star Trek good.

Moore (but make sure he's under mandate to keep the show optimistic). Coto. The Reeves-Stevenses. David if he's not too busy at Marvel.
They could cook some good shit up, IMO.

I'd rather they pick someone who has had no association with Trek in the past so we can get a more fresh perspective. Guys like Meyer and Piller, who were not Trekkies when they initially took their gigs, gave a much needed boost for the franchise.

Re: Writer you would rather have plotting Discovery season 2?
My problems with Ron Moore.
1. I lost admiration for him (maybe undeserved if a lot of writing choices were made without his input---I don't know the whole backstory) when given the entirety of Battlestar Galactica, it's clear that the writers had no real plan for the story arc and resorted to the style JJ Abrams of introducing then constantly kicking the mystery can down the road.
2. Given the popularity of the Orville, I think that fandom doesn't want a Ron Moore-ian interpretation of the Star Trek universe---big struggles between star empires. Fandom wants the Jeri Taylor-take: discrete drama/problems/issues in a static/Andy Griffith-Mayberry universe.
just being honest

nuBSG was actually really good for the first 2 seasons, it's after they killed off Admiral Cain that they clearly ran out of ideas.
