Yeah, you wouldn't want a means to defend yourself from getting your face kicked in by 5 gay bashers who have decided to bash you or anything. Or for that matter to make them think twice about bashing gays since they might try to bash one who happens to be armed. Being a victim is definitely preferable to being empowered.

Wow. Hate crimes are a national epidemic. While influencing more people to get handguns probably escalates the other epidemic that is gun violence, one person getting a gun isn't supposed to be a cure to hate crimes, on a broad scale or personal. It's not really designed to do that, it's designed to stop people from f'ing with you. But also I'm wearing of any person with any chance of incompetency being influenced to get a gun.
