Zardoz

This forum is for discussing Chuck's videos as they are publicly released. And for bashing Neelix, but that's just repeating what I already said.

Behold, the movie that somehow manages to be utterly batshit insane yet completely tedious and dull at once

Here is a link to a video by a Youtuber named Georg Rockall-Schmidt who does film analysis and it is worth a watch. His interpretation of this film is of one hampered by budget and era more than its ideas. And there are some great concepts here, particularly the ending and of life and death, but it looks atrocious even for the time. What it needed was money more than anything else. Its a missed opportunity rather than being irredeemable.

My opinion is the same. I think Zardoz could stand up very well to a modern reboot. As an aside there is also an interesting point to be made here about clothing. Sean Connery in that outfit is a figure of fun/disgusting/stupid etc. And yet, the fact remains that women particularly in comics and videogames but also sci fi of the time wore things like this all the time and were celebrated for it. I'm not making a political statement by pointing this out, but it is interesting to me how sex immediately changes our views on clothes.

I think it has more to do with Connery being the one wearing it and how it looks. I don't know, something about it is just so silly, maybe it's the film itself and its reputation as a 'weird and dumb' movie that invites the ridicule. I mean, Conan the Barbarian and Tarzan wear less.

I enjoy "Zardoz". I am one of those guys that thinks the ideas in it are cool and interesting enough that I forgive the cheesy production and slower execution.
Honestly the self indulgence makes me like it more, I kind of like how obnoxious it is.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a slick remake to take the ideas and production and make them better. There are plenty of ways to shake up the original's idea too.

Honestly I think this is the worst review I have seen Chuck do, Yes Zardoz have a lot of nudity but really Chuck comes of as an prude in this review, It seems like all he can focus on is the nudity.

Boorman is credited as Director, Producer, and Writer.

Was Orson Welles in Citizen Kane the last person to do all three of those in the same film and actually have the result be good?

In his defense, I don't think it's due to the fact there is a lot of nudity so much as he has to do a lot of tedious editing to keep his show safe for work. Then again I don't know how hard that is but I imagine it at least takes a lot of time. Plus, having large spaces of black screen to show probably disrupts the enjoyment for some (half the time when I watch a review i just listen to it while looking at something else).

This movie is something of a favorite amongst my IRL friends. So many memes, so many memes.

I have to admit, I found the utilization of Mahoromantic rather amusing.
