So... I just found out that the Expanse is (officially) set in the same universe as The Martian.

Somebody mentioned it over in a thread on Stardestroyer.net, and I Googled it.

Apparently the novels featured a ship named after Mark Watney, the protagonist from The Martian, and the authors confirmed that The Martian is part of the backstory for The Expanse.

Cool video based on the Epstein Drive. He randomly said the idea of the expanse was a plan for a video game?

Nice one! I watch Scott Manly vids from time to time when he's talking about The Expanse but I missed this one apparently. I personally like the idea this show started life as a game. It makes things more internally self consistent than with other shows where they bend the rules based on what suits them at the moment. I remember in one of the DVD commentary tracks, JMS said the combat scenes in B5 were often "played out" with that in mind.

Loved that video explaining the proto molecule. I liked that he didn't try to interject the future novels to possibly spoil the direction of the show. I was just checking out Tee Public and saw that there a quite a few designs based on the show.
