Re: The European Elections - Brexit is as strong as ever
I know a young Libertarian who has so many conflicting political views, it's amazing he can't see what a hypocrite he is - like all humans, myself included, are. He thinks that Europe could kick Russia's ass if they invaded, and yet... at the same time, wants the EU AND NATO to fail. He also thinks at the same time we shouldn't antagonize them because they have a lot of nukes... wha? How do those views reconcile? Has he never heard of doublethink?

Sounds like someone who pretty much looks to generalize or discredit anything achieved as if to make not special for consideration.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 10:59 pm I know a young Libertarian who has so many conflicting political views, it's amazing he can't see what a hypocrite he is - like all humans, myself included, are. The absolute longest the EU can hold out for is until the current working age German retires. This will cause a collapse of the German pension system and banking system at the same time. This collapses the Euro. That collapses the union.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 7:46 pmAnd you are not going to answer that question, are you? You'll just sit there and repeat your mantra into eternity, because if it hasn't happened today, it will surely happen tomorrow. Or the day after. All the while ignoring that participation in the voting process was at a historical height allmost all across Europe and given the overall results, the European population overwhelmingly supports the EU. Except for England...Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2019 4:02 pm Good, as I've said before, the European Union is going to collapse. It is not a question of IF but WHEN.
But the Union can collapse so many more ways than that. It would be easier to list the ways it wouldn't collapse.

I find it more than a little ironic that Americans like ABS who have no fucking stake in Europe at all want the EU to fail so badly. I mean, shit, even political leaders like Putin have more grounds to want it to fail - granted, that's for completely evil reasons, but still, it makes them a wee bit hypocritical.

I don't want it to fail. I just know that it will, and I want people to stop sticking their heads in the sand and say that it won't or can't. (deflecting by saying I want it to fail is a sign of this)Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 12:55 am I find it more than a little ironic that Americans like ABS who have no fucking stake in Europe at all want the EU to fail so badly. What makes no sense are people that do want the Union to succeed and survive deluding themselves into thinking it can't fail and all the doomsayers are just want to poison the well or something. If you are convinced something can't fail you won't take steps to prevent it from failing or planning for what happens when/if it does. (see the Titanic)

... okay, I legitimately misspoke. I don't pay that much attention to you otherwise, but... I am sorry. That was horrible mischaracterization on my part.
I do hate this mindset in a few Americans though. Again, my young Libertarian friend not only thinks it will fail, he WANTS it to fail.

I don't like the EU but I don't care enough to want it to fail.
The europeans can do what they want with their counties, as long as it doesn't fall back on the US or they don't act smug about It I don't care.

THANK GOD you are more reasonable than the young Libertarian I know. I'm curious if Admiral X wants it to fail too?

I don't necessarily need you to explain it exhaustively or anything, but what's this going on with German pensions?Antiboyscout wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 12:38 amThe absolute longest the EU can hold out for is until the current working age German retires. Like, they're age tree looks pretty bland and boring (unlike say Japan or Ireland). Are you talking about automation or something because of them being heavily industrialized?
A world on fire.
