Pretty sure it was always Qo'nos up until Star Trek Into Darkness. And that film is so stupid that we can just pretend that it never happened. Khan never showed up in the Kelvin timeline, Klingons didn't have their make-up redone, and Spock still acts generally like a Vulcan.

It's pronounced "Kronos" but spelled Qo'noS. Do some research.

As far as I have been able to tell, klingon uses TWO romanization systems--one is for strict pronunciation and the other is for a more english-friendly transcription. For instance, Gowron's name in the transliterated klingon language is ghawran, but you almost never see the literal version.

It actually was never called either Qo'nos nor Kronos until fairly recently (in relation to Star Trek's existance). The original creator of the Klingons, Gene Coon, made a joking remark, when being asked how their homeworld is named and said: Kling. This actually made it's way into official material, like the starcharts that were used on screen in TNG:



Pay attention to the rightmost sector. And yes, this chart was used on screen in several TNG episodes and in Star Trek 6 - The Undiscovered Country. This name was also used in the in both ST 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites games as well and it can even be found in the scripts to "Hearts of Glory", though it was deleted before being filmed. It was around the time of said episode, that it was realized that the name is kinda silly and that they need a proper one.

Star Trek's planet names are crap in general. Kling for Klingons, Vulcan for Vulcans, Romulus for Romulans, Andoria for Andorians etc.

Should someone tell them that we don't live on the planet Human?

Maybe they do call our planet Human (or just "Hum"), or maybe they call us Earthans, but the universal translator changes it for our hearing.

Like, if you talked to a Japanese person while using the universal translator, and you used the word "Japan", would they hear the actual word "Japan", or would they hear "Nippon", which is what Japanese people call their own country?

Well we call the great lakes area the midwest so I'm sure the universal translator would get away with calling Japan by the colloquial designation.
