Justin "Blackface" Trudeau - Thoughts?

Post by clearspira »

Having the King of Wokeness doing an Al Jolson is delicous in its irony I won't lie, but I also have to state my opinion again that I don't think you should hold 20 year old misdemeanours against someone. He clearly is no longer that man and he has said sorry. That is good enough for me.

Of more pressing concern is the convenient timing. You really telling me this photo was "only just" found?

This does remind me of case when that one pro-Trump hacker brought up those old jokes that James Gunn had made back in day and had already said sorry for but was fired over. I sense something similar with this. So it's very likely that this isn't coincidence that that photo was brought up now.

What are you meaning by "no longer that man?"

Of course not but I don't think that's the point. Point is that he made stupid thing 20 years ago that isn't acceptable but he has changed as who he is and he has said sorry for doing that back then.

I suppose my point is that this isn't something that was generally socially acceptable at the time, as opposed to something that was then but isn't now. But stuff like this starts appearing because of the rise to prominence - no one had a reason to dredge this stuff up and the resources to do so until he became PM. Now do I think it should end his career and that doing dumb things when we were you young should doom your life? No. You apologize and move on - but apologies are not enough for a very vocal few who drive the mob.

There were always people mad about something and it seems never the case that something was okay then, but not now.

Personally (as a Canadian who follows politics a little) I always found it strange that Trudeau was considered the king of wokeness, he always struck me as a lightweight with some savy but without much depth of principle or ambition. He was sort of your cool high school drama teacher left perhaps of a lot of people but hardly the king of wokeness or anything. I prefered him to his main opponent but it was the definitely the evil of two lessers sort of situation. His actual term in office so far has suggested he was more cynical and shallow than I had initially gotten the impression.

Note he did not come clean initially about another incident that a news network subsequently dug up on him, which I think shows his lack of any deep principle here. I can see why you would not bring it up this sort of thing without provocation/necessity (although some can not and say that proves he did not really care, which is not unreasonable) because any admision can just bring these things down on you in politics, even if you not only apologize but perform all kinds of contrition (so no win scenario), but once one incident is out in the open the risk of the further incidents coming to light is way worse than admitting a few more similar sins , I would think and not doing it detracts from any hope of thinking you are genuinely contrite...

The previous PM Stephen Harper who lost the last election to Trudeau must be perturbed that the conservatives failed to dig up any of these in the last election, it would have made a big difference one suspects.

It is interesting the timing of these sorts of revelations versus there impact and it is fun to imagine them happening at different times, but perhaps hard to evaluate what would really have happend. I think in the middle of his term if this stuff had come out Trudeau would have been more likely to resign and if it had come out before he had become leader, he might never have become leader. So yeah when it was revealed tells you something about who the revealer was going after man or party. Note the first photo was apparently dug up by someone with a yearbook back in July and Time only just published the story etc.

Details from Time:
Earlier this month, TIME obtained a copy of the yearbook, The View, with the photograph of Trudeau in brownface from Vancouver businessman Michael Adamson, who was part of the West Point Grey Academy community. Adamson was not at the party, which was attended by school faculty, administrators and parents of students. He said that he first saw the photograph in July and felt it should be made public.

Really I think nearly any politician at any time is hoping to uncover this on their competitors.
