Hey, you want to take off the jackboots there? If you are representational of the pro-EU side, then you aren't presenting a very good example.Kinky Vorlon wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 8:46 pmI quite like the idea of the brexit horde of cunts being incinerated by alien laserstechnobabbler wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 3:05 am i hope that the BBC doesn't try to subvert expectations and make the whole thing a ham-fisted allegory about some political topic.

Eh... Trying to use a period piece as a metaphor for a modern issue rarely DOESN'T come off as... 'ham-fisted'. The one time I know of where that worked was 'The Cruible', using the Salem Witch Trials as a parallel to the Red Scare.Kinky Vorlon wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 8:46 pmI quite like the idea of the brexit horde of cunts being incinerated by alien laserstechnobabbler wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 3:05 am i hope that the BBC doesn't try to subvert expectations and make the whole thing a ham-fisted allegory about some political topic.
There isn't a strong enough throughline to connect an Edwardian Era Martian Invasion to Brexit. Not without taking a chainsaw to the novel.

I hope they do the heat rays right. That was one thing the book did correctly and 99% of sci-fi (including all the adaptations) does wrong; directed energy weapons should not have a visible "light beam".

It's a joint production between the BBC and HBO, so it should be showing in both the UK and North America at around the same time.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:06 pm Anyway, as I said, I hope someone in the US has plans to bring this over. It looks fun.

Oh really? Nice. I wonder if this deal was struck when HBO scooped up New Who.Starbug wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 12:57 pmIt's a joint production between the BBC and HBO, so it should be showing in both the UK and North America at around the same time.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 11:06 pm Anyway, as I said, I hope someone in the US has plans to bring this over.
