It's just the other side of the aisle. Our population factor is a number. The same way cities, with higher populations, have higher crime. I won't deny we've had serious mismanagement on this. But it is also something to observe too.

Oh, the president's taking hydroxychloroquine now. So maybe it was sheer ignorance that lead him to advise the population to take it for Rona, rather than malice. So hard to tell with this dude.

If either the virus kills him or the drug he shouldn't be taking does, it would be the platonic ideal of Hoisted by your Own Petard, but I don't trust the gods to be so generous.

Then again, maybe he's just lying about it. There's a pretty good chance of that.

Well, French and Chinese sources reported success with hydroxochloroquine. And in general the drug is well-tolerated.

You mean this study? https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/15/health/new-french-study-hydroxychloroquine/index.html

I'll give you a hint, the title is "French study finds hydroxychloroquine doesn't help patients with coronavirus"

But here's the study itself: https://www.bmj.com/content/369/bmj.m1844

Here's the results:
Conclusions Hydroxychloroquine has received worldwide attention as a potential treatment for covid-19 because of positive results from small studies. However, the results of this study do not support its use in patients admitted to hospital with covid-19 who require oxygen.

And here's a very good overview of the entire thing: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/22/hydroxychloroquine-coronavirus-scientific-studies-research

TLDR: Oh, take a wild guess if you're too lazy to read the article. Just use past results on Trump statements to predict future results.

If that link doesn't allude to World War Z I'm going to be pretty disappointed.

It gets even better:

[...]

We were unable to confirm a benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, when used alone or with a macrolide, on in-hospital outcomes for COVID-19. Each of these drug regimens was associated with decreased in-hospital survival and an increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias when used for treatment of COVID-19.

I'll take the liberty and shorten it a bit:
[...] unable to confirm a benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine [...] for COVID-19. [...] drug regimens associated with decreased in-hospital survival [...] increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias [...]
The twat is essentially poisoning himself.

That's in line with what I said. A French study was positive, but not anything close to conclusive. With a well-tolerated drug like hydroxochloroquine, it's taking a somewhat slim chance on it helping vs. a somewhat slim chance that it'll cause problems.

At this point I don't think he's using the drug on himself, he's just claiming to do so, and now his followers will use it (or at least hype it up) to prove their devotion.

I cannot think of any other president who would be promoting a drug that actively kills people worse during a pandemic. Reagan would let it keep burning out and pretend it didn't happen but he wouldn't be working to make it actively worse.
