All that hate for this movie and Chuck didn't even mention the bearded paleontologist was a parody of Robert Bakker put in the movie because the paleontologist consultant for this film was his rival.
Spock was a socialist: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."
Re: The Lost World: Jurassic Park
One great thing from the film is this 10 second gag when a Blockbuster is destroyed. We get to see a bunch of fake movie posters the production crew made. I would love to see Arnold doing King Lear, for instance.
Re: The Lost World: Jurassic Park
I waited on this one. The review and the comments.
I watched the movie, and I read the book. Pretty much liked the book more. Then comes the sad opinion. It took Chuck beginning this review for me to properly remember this movie. If my family or friends see the first Jurassic Park come on we will usually watch. Good odds on the third as well. This one. . . I think we prefer to watch golf.

Oh, I see what you mean.SuccubusYuri wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 10:15 pmOh, no, I wasn't saying in context it was great, just in a better movie it would have been iconic xDMabus wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 8:47 amI too feel that the other things are great, but what is that line supposed to mean?SuccubusYuri wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 1:34 am I genuinely like three things about this movie:
-Roland's introduction, and just Roland in general. ("Friar Tuck's on the move")
-The line, "Now you're John Hammond."
-The shot of a bunch of Japanese businessmen running from the T-Rex always makes me laugh.
I can enjoy these things in isolation if I pretend the rest of the film doesn't exist xD
That Peter's actions got people killed? Because I'm pretty sure that's all on the "heroes".
That the T-Rex escaped from the cage he was sedated, killed everyone on board without damaging anything, plotted a course for the ship to head straight for the exact dock where the press conference was held, then locked himself inside the cage waiting to be conveniently released by the people on the docks before going on a rampage in the city? Because that's all on the film writer.
I never got what that line was supposed to mean.

There's a comic I link people to very, very often. It's called "Caveman Science Fiction". I don't like the webcomic very much. I link it because like or hate the creator, he deserves credit for making this excellent, excellent summary.

This is Crichton's entire career. This is 95% of all science fiction in Hollywood. And unfortunately the Lost World is one of those times it doesn't act very entertaining. Caveman Science Fiction always falls apart when you think about it too hard, but in the Lost World everyone was holding the idiot ball far, far, far too tightly in order to make a sequel.
There's usually a point in any sci-fi movie where my wife turns to me and goes "Me am play god". The Lost World you have that on top of a healthy dose of pure fucking stupidity.

I need to insist on the underlined portion to be added. Little space opera resembles this. No superhero movies either. Still fits into the overall supergenre. On the other hand, the stuff that bills itself as higher brow fits in there often.
Re: The Lost World: Jurassic Park
That's a good point. Consider me corrected, I definitely should have said "serious" because stuff like Star Wars or Superman doesn't go there (at least very rarely, and often just long enough to find a new villain).

I agree with Chuck: I like JP 3 over the Lost World.

Re: The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park 3 also showcased a lot more new dinosaurs, it's got that over Lost World.
