White supremacists could set off a nuke and announce that they did it on behalf of their glorious president, and Trump would just tweet in all caps "THE REAL PROBLEM IS ANTIFA AND THE LEFT-WING TERRORISTS!"

Yes, the funny thing is I used to be Republican but switched when after Hurricane Katrina there wasn't a damned bit of effort to rebuild that city. At that point I thought, "Maybe the Center isn't the best place to be if these guys are being assholes."
Then things there moved righter and righter and righter.
I may not have liked W. but I was never scared of him the way I am of Trump.

That's because our culture overall has become more liberal. When the right wing slowly realized over the years that a growing majority of Americans began to support pro-choice, legalization of marijuana, medicare for all, ending the wars, marriage equality & LGBTQ rights, etc, their reaction was to double down to moving even FURTHER to the right.
I often hear from commentators that if Trump loses this election the Republicans may never recover after this. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but it kind of feels like that.

A two party system is a very poor example of democracy, true. Your choice is between this old man and that old man. You want someone else? Tough. Vote for Kang and Kodos. You have no choice.Captain Crimson wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:22 am We've never had a democracy. The Constitution needs a serious overhaul, those clowns at the top won't do since it undercuts their own political power, but in terms of the people, revise the blood thing!

Trump is a symptom of what is happening in the US not the cause. There will be another Trump, I guarantee you.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:28 am That's because our culture overall has become more liberal. Well I mean these people aren't representing the white race much. I mean they might be trying to but yeah you won't practically convince someone that the white race is having them do this on our behalf.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 4:58 am@jemelehill

I don’t know who needs to hear this but just imagine the reaction if it would have been discovered that anyone connected to Black Lives Matter was plotting to kidnap a United States Governor.
..What mirror universe?
Re: So, Round 1 for the Second American Civil War happened today
The weird thing about those dudes isn’t that they wanted to attack the governor as part of a larger operation to overthrow the government. That just kinda... happens once in a while in Michigan.
The weird part is that they actually approved of a political party while doing it, normally these types are a) “sovereign citizens” or b) vaguely religious cults.

While I can concede the DNC being a better alternative, I think they don't deserve a pass. True, a lot of it you can pin on Mr. Dubya, but at the same time, they also shared their own role in the downfall of the New Economy that was touted as the future in the '90s.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:18 am Yes, the funny thing is I used to be Republican but switched when after Hurricane Katrina there wasn't a damned bit of effort to rebuild that city. You shouldn't be scared of Mr. 45, mind you, so much as what comes after him, because even if he got a second term, his power is limited. Regardless, he IS being removed from office come January, 2025 no matter what happens, as that is when his executive powers expire. It is why I laugh so hard when the leftist media speaks about a "constitutional crisis." How about just amending the bleeding thing? No, as I've said before, it's about cultural inertia, and what he's started could have severe blowback much further down the line. That's what you should be worried over, IMO.
In some ways, I would contend it's either a fake liberalism meant to score points, or is merely empty liberalism. The split in culture, as I said, comes between the entertainment industry and government sphere, right down the middle. And the entertainment industry now is being overseen by SJWs at the tail end of the decline of the New Economy, so it is pure, rank hypocrisy. Call them out on it, you get called a bigot. The past was more diverse in some ways, less so in others. Take LF's historical revision and burying of the past, for marketing reasons. Some anti-SJWs, who are just as awaful and hardcore as some SJWs, think it's Soviet-style erasing of the past. I don't buy that, but I do think it's tragic that they're going around declaring "firsties" which is complete misinformation. It's a pretend story world. Can you try being honest just a little bit? Past corporate skulduggery, of course. I know that's limiting.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:28 am That's because our culture overall has become more liberal. The flip side being the right, conservatism generally keeps control over the government sphere. Americans trust conservatives, republicans more on the economy than the DNC, and historically they always have. I seriously doubt they are on the road to losing as much power as you might think. The DNC has frankly become obsessed with catering to minorities since, they are looking to the long road and having far more power than they do today. Will they, though...? I personally know Latinos in my area and across the country who are generally very skeptical of the DNC. They see it as the pandering it is. It's why I refuse to nurse the myth that Arizona is going to go blue this year. They are not fans of Mr. 45, and yet, they don't think the DNC is any better, so they're not going to vote in the numbers you think. And so what happens when the future arrives, and Latinos are a majority?
Just how I see it.

A long, long time ago, a party double-downed hard on right wing politics. After a great crisis, it was marginalized in all but one region of the country. Most of its success was when it acted like their rival. Then, it got caught up in a new political movement their rival resisted, and eventually came to great power. That party's name? The Democrats.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:28 am I often hear from commentators that if Trump loses this election the Republicans may never recover after this. It's all part of America's great dance between two parties. The Republicans look doomed, and may very well be doomed for a while. Then they'll reinvent themselves and make a comeback.

Being in Kentucky provides a different perspective where Mitch McConnell has been known to dip into job approval ratings of 18% but the only people who have a chance to vote in our state are rich suburbanites. I'm also familiar with his tactics to decrease voter turnout, suppress alternative candidates, and outright cheat. I've seen Mitch support the opiod crisis, steal from teacher's pensions, overturn a vote to legalize pot by his own party, and attack my wife's medical coverage. He's a bad bad man. He's also in charge of everything these days. You shouldn't be scared of Mr. 45, mind you, so much as what comes after him, because even if he got a second term, his power is limited. Trump wouldn't be nearly as scary if not for the constant actions by people like the Governor of Georgia striking down 100K voters from the rolls and other blatantly illegal actions. Actions we know he won't be taken to task for because the United States Senate blatantly ignored an impeachable offense then acquitted him for it (despite doing much more against Bill Clinton). If they're willing to cheat and ignore criminal activities from the President, I'm not sure why I shouldn't be afraid.
