indeed, while I liked season two of Discovery, I do agree that the Red Angel arc once it's all said and done wasn't that good, I don't mind prequels, but they need to be used to expand on things that while we know about them, we don't know the whole story, like with Discoverys Klingon War arc and Enterprises potential to show how the Federation was formed and what the Romulan War was like, but when you introduce a major threat like Control or the Xindi in a prequel, that if not stopped will destroy worlds that we know are still around because it's a prequel, then it feels like a waist of time.Ordo wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 11:55 amHonestly the concept of the Federation collapsing for a time never bothered me. What I'm liking about Discovery's version is that so far, the tech level remains above what we've seen in previous Star Trek series, it's just that the method to power their ships has become VERY scarce. Obviously we've seen other alternatives throughout Trek's history and it's possible some of that is being used on a limited basis since we've confirmed at least two Federation ships in service. That said we don't know what exotic material might be required to make it work, and thus it could also be extremely rare even if it's more trusted than Dilithium.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 8:26 pm It's kind of a full circle thing. Andromeda came about when Robert Hewitt Wolfe used Roddenberry's basis for that show for a potential Star Trek spin-off. Rick Berman rejected it at the time, so Wolfe worked on it as a separate project. 25 years later, it's actually being utilized for Trek.
For me, I skipped the second season because the concept of the Red Angel and the entire prequel nature of the series didn't bother me. Now that they've jumped into the future I am interested again so this softreboot is pretty much working for me. I'm not tired of seeing any particular character in action, and to me there seem to be a lot of new faces getting screen time. So over all I am cautiously optimistic.
However I'm still hyped for Strange New Worlds as it's going to expand on Captain Pike and his crew and time on the Enterprise before Captain Kirk, and is even making the fact that we as the audience know his fate apart of the series by keeping in that Pike knows his fate and seeing how he copes with that knowledge, it feels sort of meta in that way.
Also on tech level, I love the Programmable Matter, it's such an awesome idea and I love how it's implemented in Discovery, the opening scene to season three with the bed dissolving into the floor like sand, then reforming into a desk and chair that floats, yet holds so steady that you could push down on it and it wouldn't move looks fantastic.
Also, bird alarm clock... I want one.
