I'm wondering why they don't do this in the first place. Throwing all your eggs into one basket was historically a recipe for disaster and still is and it's something you only ever do when either you think you can not fail or if you have no other choice and must do a Hail Mary.

I think they have gotten too caught up in the huge returns from the blockbusters. They can't think in the long term enough to realize they'd probably make more on smaller budget films spread out over time than putting all their eggs in one basket and hoping for one big instant return.
It's a problem of feeding the beast you've become. The larger you get, the more you need to keep growing, and that's all they know how to do.
