Most White Leftists are Mentally Ill

So here's my question for the bastion of great minds here: If you are white, and you're on this site so you're probably Progressive... does it ever occur to you that the Right Wing might be correct? That maybe, just maybe, "your truth" is just a misunderstanding/hallucination/delusion? How often do you question your sources, your reality? Because if 62% of white Conservatives were mentally ill, I'd certainly question myself more.

When I was a boy I used to be taught that the races should be equal, everyone should be treated equal under the law, that justice is something that should be merciful yet harsh, that democracy was the greatest system in the world, that torture was wrong, and that it was right to be proud to be an American because we didn't silence dissent but engaged in healthy debate to the betterment of all citizens.

My political party for my first 25 years?

Republican.

I was raised similarly, and went from Dem to Libertarian to Republican over my 38 years.

Suffice to say, I feel like the shift to authoritarianism in recent years and white grievance politics has soured me on my former party. I am not afraid of black, brown, or native people so I don't have any reason to want them harmed and think we should all work to help fellow Americans.

I've found the exact opposite. You said in another post (I believe) that you live in Montana - that might be the root of it. I'm from NY originally, lived most of my life there, so I've seen things go the exact opposite way in many ways. The authoritarianism is there, but it's from the Left, and all the victimhood seems to be coming from POCs/women, and a general "Fuck white men" attitude prevails.

I've found the exact opposite. You said in another post (I believe) that you live in Montana - that might be the root of it. I'm from NY originally, lived most of my life there, so I've seen things go the exact opposite way in many ways. The authoritarianism is there, but it's from the Left, and all the victimhood seems to be coming from POCs/women, and a general "Fuck white men" attitude prevails.

Kentucky actually but yes, the absolute redneckiest part of it. I remember watching JUSTIFIED and thinking, "They've got it pretty horrible....but they are still underselling it."
