There is no shortage of Reagan revisionism on both ends of the spectrum. He was considered far right then, he'd be on the moderate side of the GOP today. He spent 1978 campaigning against the Briggs Initiative, a position that would kill his national ambitions in today's Republican party. As president he signed the US on to the Montreal protocol, gave amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, and picked a pro-choice justice for the Supreme Court as his first appointment. None of those things would even be considered by a Republican now.
I guess the moral is if you need something to celebrate on June 5th celebrate Marshall Plan day. Or Singaporean independence. Or Union victory at Piedmont, Virginia. Or Women's Suffrage in Denmark. Or Tank Man day. So many less controversial options.

Yeah, the right has gotten more extreme and the left has gotten more extreme. At least in terms of political leadership.
