Re: B5 - Voices of Authority
Donald Trump notably didn't condemn David Duke's endorsement of him during the election. There's no point in trying to thread the needle that Trump is a racist pile of crap because it's self-evident.
* Birtherism
* His attacks on Native American casinos
* His attacks on Native American sovereignty
* Charlottesville
* His defense of Andrew Jackson on the $20 over Harriet Tubman and blocking the replacement of the former with the latter
* His defense of Confederate General names for US military forts despite the US army supporting their change
* His attempts to ban Muslim immigrants completely
* His constant attacks on BLM and calling them terrorists
* His belief police brutality against blacks doesn't exist
* Again, accepting The Grand Wizard of the KKK's endorsement
* His taking a full page article out on the Central Park Five and demanding they be executed
* Demanding black employees be removed from the Taj Mahal floor when he visited
* Calling Baltimore a shithole (only people from Baltimore can call it that)
* His raising an enormous stink about the CARAVAN OF DOOM
* The camps (and before you mention Obama, that was shitty under him too)
* His attacks on sanctuary cities, abridging the right of the cities to determine who stays and who doesn't.
* The Wall
Rather than address any, how much more does he have to do before people accept he's a fucking bigot?
In simple terms, who advocates for worker rights if not unions? The government needs to enforce their existence but they've let them be dismantled in the country.Its a problem that needs addressed legally and not used an excuse to do away with unions, just maybe an excuse to be wary of them at times and for greater government oversight to ensure unions aren't into the pocket of the mafia.

Thank you, Charles. I appreciate you listing this out so I don't have to.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 3:15 pm Donald Trump notably didn't condemn David Duke's endorsement of him during the election. There's no point in trying to thread the needle that Trump is a racist pile of crap.

So you are saying that the President was in such a rush to lie about something else, he just forgot how words worked?G-Man wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:31 am When Trump said "sure," I think he assumed that saying so WAS condemning white supremacy. Then Chris wanted him in addition to tell the groups to "stand down." So that's what he did, although he forgot the exact phrasing. I truly think he was simply trying to get to his main goal of pointing out that the vast majority of violence these past few months was being done by leftists, and any deficiencies in his response was due to him trying to bring things back to his main point.

Trump notably denied he knew who the Proud Boys were a day after saying they should stand by.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 6:01 pmSo you are saying that the President was in such a rush to lie about something else, he just forgot how words worked?G-Man wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:31 am When Trump said "sure," I think he assumed that saying so WAS condemning white supremacy. But let's move back to the discussion of the episode:
1. Julie Musante is one of my all time favorite villains on the show, certainly the best one-shot and managed to accomplish a huge amount in a small time for establishing how the Clark regime was going to go. I really wish she'd come back for more episodes. Obviously, she mostly predates the Fox News blonde stereotype but she manages to have that kind of photogenic Barbie quality that is vaguely unsettling while still appealing.
2. I like how Zack's loyalties were initially in doubt and freezing him out was going to hurt them rather than benefit them.
3. Clark's regime definitely came about as due to the Mimbari War and the reminder that humans are such a small tiny species compared to what they THOUGHT they were. You can understand why someone would go to him promising security. The thing is that he only accomplishes making Earth potentially powerful by making an alliance with the Shadows.
4. Psi-Corps gets a lot of shit for its evil and they were evil but I actually have a soemwhat Magneto-esque view of them. The Psi-Corps supported Clark because they recognized that regular humans thought of them as freaks and monsters. They were trying to play the game and knew that there were people who wanted to exterminate them like Edgars. Clark didn't care as long as they brought him power but it was a deal with the devil since they became nothing more than fuel for the Shadows machines.
5. Freezing out G'Kar is another reason why it was a dumb idea for the Rangers to keep their circle small.
6. The First Ones being such assholes was actually wrong of Ivanova because they're 100% correct the Vorlons are a near complete race of assholes. Perhaps they should have started to ask, "Why are so many people of the mind the Vorlons suck?"

But then, the impact of the reveal that the Vorlons have their own planet killers would've been lost. Of course by this point, people seem to have forgotten the Vorlons were perfectly happy to blow B5 to bits during The Gathering. S4 is when we learn Kosh is the exception rather than the rule when it comes to Vorlons and how they view the "pebbles."CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 6:43 pm 6. The past tempts us, the present confuses us, the future frightens us. And our lives slip away moment by moment lost in that vast, terrible in-between.

I'm sure Aaron Danielson's family finds that joke hilarious.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 5:10 amAntifa drank all the water out of my brita filter jug without replacing it and now my throat is parched.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 4:22 amI am guessing you did not actually watch the debate?Marveryn wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:33 pmWhile biden don't say anything about antifaunknownsample wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 12:56 pm I have to say I'm really troubled by Chuck talking about rebranding racism as white supremacy to me it feels like he's downplaying the threat of white supremacism when just now we have Trump refusing to condemn white supremacism and encouraging the proud boys.

It was a nice reveal but one that had been heavily foreshadowed. First, we had the First Ones saying, "Fuck the Vorlons" in their language.Kinky Vorlon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 10:45 pmBut then, the impact of the reveal that the Vorlons have their own planet killers would've been lost. But we also had the Vorlons send JACK THE FUCKING RIPPER as their Inquisitor.
The fact they looked like angels was also a big clue. People thought, "Oh, it means they're benevolent!"
No, it means, "They impersonate gods like the Gould."
Babylon 5 is the most carefully plotted series in all of television.

If you think that it was primarily right-wingers rioting, looting, burning buildings, you're deluded.Rocketboy1313 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 6:01 pmSo you are saying that the President was in such a rush to lie about something else, he just forgot how words worked?G-Man wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:31 am When Trump said "sure," I think he assumed that saying so WAS condemning white supremacy. Here are three different times that Trump disavowed David Duke:CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 3:15 pm Donald Trump notably didn't condemn David Duke's endorsement of him during the election. Or did the fact he said "disavow" instead of the exact word "condemn" mean it doesn't count?
Richard Spencer, the guy who organized the Charlottesville protests, endorsed Joe Biden.
