I mean, the show makes fun of the idea of Picard doing action scenes repeatedly. One of the first scenes is where Soji is kicking ass and Picard after a brisk run has to lie down while she fights.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 11:28 pmTolerating that the elderly are action-heroes and should fight terrorists and black-ops groups?CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 11:01 pmI believe Sir Patrick Stewart made Star Trek: Picard as a way to comment on Brexit and other issues that were irritating him like hatred of immigration and poor treatment of refugees, which means that Picard is possibly THE most motivated by Trek ideals of tolerance.

It's also probably one of the muddiest takes on that topic that Trek has done, and it's not new to this particular issue. But they have said that was the intent he brought to it.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 11:01 pmI believe Sir Patrick Stewart made Star Trek: Picard as a way to comment on Brexit and other issues that were irritating him like hatred of immigration and poor treatment of refugees, which means that Picard is possibly THE most motivated by Trek ideals of tolerance.

Curiously, I find the most recent Trek products to be aimed at a market that is wildly intolerant of any variance from itself.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 11:01 pm I believe Sir Patrick Stewart made Star Trek: Picard as a way to comment on Brexit and other issues that were irritating him like hatred of immigration and poor treatment of refugees, which means that Picard is possibly THE most motivated by Trek ideals of tolerance.

Hey it been awhile since we last got a Piccard review.
Re: PIC: The End is the Beginning.
The franchise has done that in the past as well. The main difference is that the viewpoints the new shows take that stance on have shifted, even sometimes ones it previously had a different position on.Frustration wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 6:00 pmCuriously, I find the most recent Trek products to be aimed at a market that is wildly intolerant of any variance from itself.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sun Sep 05, 2021 11:01 pm I believe Sir Patrick Stewart made Star Trek: Picard as a way to comment on Brexit and other issues that were irritating him like hatred of immigration and poor treatment of refugees, which means that Picard is possibly THE most motivated by Trek ideals of tolerance.
That's resulted in some dissonance in the values of show as a whole, and definitely among some fans, I think.

It's not really muddy in the sense that "Help Romulans=Good", "Help XBs=Good", "Help Androids=Good", "Prejudice=Bad."
Its just Starfleet gets an out because it turns out Brexit was helped by Al-Qaeda in Stewartverse.

It's the best science fiction show we got right now. Fight me I said what I said.
I got nothing to say here.
