I mean, the show makes fun of the idea of Picard doing action scenes repeatedly. One of the first scenes is where Soji is kicking ass and Picard after a brisk run has to lie down while she fights.

It's also probably one of the muddiest takes on that topic that Trek has done, and it's not new to this particular issue. But they have said that was the intent he brought to it.

Curiously, I find the most recent Trek products to be aimed at a market that is wildly intolerant of any variance from itself.

The franchise has done that in the past as well. The main difference is that the viewpoints the new shows take that stance on have shifted, even sometimes ones it previously had a different position on.

That's resulted in some dissonance in the values of show as a whole, and definitely among some fans, I think.

It's not really muddy in the sense that "Help Romulans=Good", "Help XBs=Good", "Help Androids=Good", "Prejudice=Bad."

Its just Starfleet gets an out because it turns out Brexit was helped by Al-Qaeda in Stewartverse.
